MMA7361 Self-Test Function

Hello all,

My questions is in regards to the Self-Test function of the MMA7361. According to the datasheet, when the self-test pin is activated the normal output for the Z axis is 1g with a min value of 0.8 and max value of 1.2.

I understand each accelerometer is different, which causes this tolerance but would each accelerometer change with age as long as the maximum specifications were not exceeded? The question really becomes this: If I record the output during a self-test, can I rely on this value to stay constant over the life of the device?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Casey,

You are right, each accelerometer may have a slightly different self-test response and we guarantee that it will be in the specified limits (+0.8g to +1.2g for the Z axis). This specific response remains constant over the life of the device as long as the maximum specifications are not exceeded.

Regards,

Tomas

Hello Jonius,

First, the MMA7361LC is being discontinued without a direct pin-to-pin compatible replacement (see PCN15634 for more details).

We have a new analog product - FXLN83xxQ (±2/8g or ±4/16g, 12-pin QFN package, 1.71V to 3.6V supply voltage, 200uA supply current in Active mode) coming out later this year.

Anyway, I am not aware of any video tutorials for these products.

Regards,

Tomas

Hello Tomas,

I have been awaiting the product FXLN83xxQ to become available and was wondering if you had any idea of when it would be listed on freescale.com for purchase. Thank you for your time.

Hello Josh,

According to the latest information from the product line manager, full production is expected to start sometime in Q1 2014. The product website is being finished and should be up soon.

Regards,

Tomas

Tomas,

In regards to the transverse sensitivity; for an accelerometer supporting 3 axes, do you have to account for 5% for each of the two axes that aren't the principal axis or a total of 5%?  Also, if I'm looking at a single axis accelerometer will I still have to account for the transverse sensitivity?
