This doc show how to use i.MX8QXP Display Controller GammaCor unit to tune gamma. HW: i.MX8QXP MEK board, HDMI monitor SW: i.MX Linux 4.14.98_2.2.0 BSP release, patch in this doc 1.Introduce gamma The gamma, gamma correction, gamma encoding, gamma compression , these words all related one kind operation , see wiki page of it: The device used for image capture/print/display follow this power-law. For example the camera captured image , to view this image on display device as good as original captured image : gamma encoding when camera saved sensor data to image file,  and  gamma decoding when that image file display on your PC LCD monitor. That is : 2. i.MX8QXP Display Controller Gamma Correction Unit The Gamma Correction unit position is located between Frame Gen unit and TCon unit.   More detail see below contents from i.MX8QXP RM: So GammaCor unit could be used as adjust display gamma , or brightness or contrast. To used it, need follow the steps at RM 15.9.2.4.4.8.3.   Something need to note: You need program 33 sample point value into the register, these sample point value range is from 0 to 1023. Note, first write is start sample point value , then the other is delta value: current sample point minus previous sample point value. You can use GammaCor unit on any channel of R/G/B. If you use normalized function f(x), the following formula should be used to clut[i = 0..32] = round( f(i * 32 / 1023) * 1023) 3. i.MX8QXP Linux device driver patch and test code Apply attached  patch 8qxp_dpu_gammacor_4.14.98_2.2.0.diff on Linux kernel. In the kernel patch, function dpu_gammacor_update, I choose not calculate delta value between each sample pint , let user space application calculate delta value and passed to kernel. Apply 8qxp-dpu-gammacor-modetst.diff on libdrm-imx, to get test application which is based on modetest.  Test app will read one greyscale image file 720P.rgb, put it under same folder of test application , calculate sample point value by pow function  , and calling drmModeCrtcSetGamma to pass related value to kernel,  next loop will change sample point value, and will see that greyscale image will changed on HDMI monitor. For early i.MX 8QuadXPlus MEK boards with C0 chips, power on the board when the board is connected to the PC with USB Type-C cable may cause the PC to shut down directly. This is a hardware known issue. another type of TCPC PHY chip will be used in later boards to fix this issue. If you have this kind of i.MX 8QuadXPlus MEK boards with c0 chips already, you can take below way to avoid this issue: 1. change the boot switch to "serial download mode", firstly power on the board, then connect the board to PC with Type-C cable. 2. download the attached files, uncompress this two files and put them in the same folder. 3. open the command window, change the working directory to the one contains the files just downloaded, and execute "uuu uuu_change_DRP_to_DFP.auto-imx8qxpc0mek" on command window. After the command being successfuley executed, the board can be powerwed up when the board is connected to PC with type-C cable.

Introduction EVIS (Enhanced Vision Instruction Set) is an API level program language, which is applicable on GC7000XSVX (i.MX8QM) and VIP8000NanoSi (i.MX8MP). The instructions take advantage of the enhanced vision capabilities in the vision-capble hardware, with low-latency. It provides additional functionality for vision image processing beyond the functions provided through the Khronos Group OpenVX API. In the i.MX8QM/i.MX8MP BSP, the OpenCL compiler also support the EVIS instructions. So, it is also an OpenCL VX Extension API. The source file can found in /usr/include/CL/cl_viv_vx_ext.h. Hardware Requirements i.MX8QM (GC7000XSVX) supports EVIS1. i.MX8MP (VIP8000NanoSi) supports EVIS2. Packed Data Types To fully utilize the computing power of the instructions, the extension API support packed data types. For example, in standard OpenCL, a vector char4 will occupy 4x 32-bit registers, while a packed char16 only occupies 128 bits. Thus use packed data types as possible.  The char, unsigned char, short, unsigned short, integer, unsigned integer, float packed data types are supported. They are defined with vxc_ prefix i.e. vxc_char, vxc_uchar, vxc_short, vxc_ushort, vxc_int, vxc_uint, vxc_float, followed by a literal value n that defines the number of elements in the packed data. Supported values of n are 2, 4, 8, and 16 for all the packed data types. The enumeration can be found in /usr/include/CL/cl_viv_vx_ext.h. Only EVIS1 supports instructions: VXC_IAdd VXC_MagPhase VXC_BiLinear VXC_SelectAdd VXC_BitReplace VXC_Filter VXC_DP2x16/VXC_DP2x16_b Objects load and store Packed type image data read/write: supported types are packed 8-bit/16bit integer, 16bit float. Image read/write for image1d_t/image1d_array/image2d_t. Offset should be composed by using VXC_5BITOFFSET_XY(x, y). VXC_OP4(img_load, Dest, Image, Coord, Offset, Info) VXC_OP4_NoDest(img_store, Image, Coord, Color, Info) Parameters:         img_load/img_store    Read/write image data.          Dest                            The destination loading the data to.         Image                          The packed image data read from for img_load. VXC_MODIFIER(StartBin, EndBin, SourceBin, RoundingMode, Clamp) Parameters:         StartBin/EndBin           The first bin/the last bin for consecutive packed data.         SourceBin                    Not used.          RoundingMode            0: Toward Zero (truncated), 1: Toward Infinity (rounded up), 2: To Nearest Even, 3: not used.         Clamp                          0: no, result is truncated to fit result type (just the lower bits are copied), 1: yes, result is clamped to fit the result type. For example, int2 coord = (int2)(get_global_id(0), get_global_id(1)); vxc_uchar16 r1; VXC_OP4(img_load, r1, in_image, coord, 0, VXC_MODIFIER(0, 15, 0, VXC_RM_TowardZero, 0)); VXC_Filter This interface applies a specified filter on a 3x3 pixel block. VXC_OP4(filter, Dest, Src0, Src1, Src2, Info) Parameters:         filter                           Filter modes.         Dest                          The filtered image.         Src0                          The first row pixels for 3x3 filter.         Src1                          The second row pixels for 3x3 filter.         Src2                          The third row pixles for 3x3 filter.         Info                            See more info in VXC_MODIFIER_FILTER(StartBin, EndBin, SourceBin, Filter, Clamp). VXC_FM_ScharrY Compute a 3x3 Scharr filter in the y-direction: |3, 10, 3, 0, 0, 0, -3, -10, -3|. VXC_FM_Max Get the maximum from a 3x3 kernel. VXC_FM_Min Get the minimum from a 3x3 kernel. VXC_FM_Median Get the median from a 3x3 kernel. It works on packed data, so it can compute 16x 8-bit values or 8x 16-bit values. This guide is about how to use EVIS to create user nodes and kernels in OpenVX to implement image processing on NPU(i.MX8MP)/GPU(i.MX8QM). Take gaussian filter as an example. It is tested on i.MX8QM and i.MX8MP. User Node Creation from User Kernel 1. Define a user node Register a user kernel by its ID or name For example, #define VX_KERNEL_NAME_GAUSSIAN "com.nxp.extension.gaussian" #define VX_KERNEL_ENUM_GAUSSIAN 100 Get the kernel reference by the ID or name For example, vx_kernel kernel = vxGetKernelByName(context, VX_KERNEL_NAME_GAUSSIAN); vx_kernel kernel = vxGetKernelByEnum(context, VX_KERNEL_ENUM_GAUSSIAN ); Create a user node vx_node node = vxCreateGenericNode(graph, kernel); Set input/output node parameters For example, vx_status status = vxSetParameterByIndex(node, index++, (vx_reference)in_image); status |= vxSetParameterByIndex(node, index++, (vx_reference)out_image); 2. Default Ethernet feature is removed for Android Auto (both Android_Pie9.0 and Android10) Below are the patched to bring Ethernet feature back to Android Auto. Please try to apply the according patches if you want to enable Ethernet. Sometimes it is helpful/faster to build a i.MX8MM boot binary outside of the Yocto environment. There are instructions on how to accomplish this on different places, this document tries to provide an example for the i.MX8M Mini LPDDR4 EVK, whenever possible pointing how to build for other boards. For the 8MM SoC a boot image is generated by imx-mkimage tool and requires: - u-boot - ARM trusted firmware image - ddr training firmware 1. This package is a OTA upgrade implementation for smartlocker in i.MX7ULP kernel. The bootaux command for i.MX7ULP can also be applied to other projects. File description: smartlocker OTA upgrade user manual. Modified u-boot. Modification involves: Add bootaux command. To use this command, the M4 image will be read out from boot partition to TCM_L. (Or DDR and then it will be copied to TCM_L in the command) It took 19ms to read M4 image. Change u-boot default env. If M4 image and zImage read failed, recovery M4 image and zImage will be loaded. patch of u-boot changes. u-boot defconfig for bootaux change. sh script, updater.sh. Example for upgrade package. Power shutdown in copying upgrade files may cause file broken. So currently, we use below copy strategy: Copy upgrade file to target directory as tmp file. Delete target file. Rename tmp file to target file.

         This document will describe how to add open JDK to i.MX yocto BSP. It will take two versions of Linux BSP as an example, one is the lower version of L4.1.15-2.0.0, the other is the latest version of L4.19.35-1.1.0. Adding openjdk-8 to L4.1.15-2.0.0(Ubuntu 16.04 LTS platform) Before adding an open JDK, you must download L4.1.15-2.0.0 BSP according to the i.MX_Yocto_Project_User's_Guide.pdf, and ensure that it can pass the compilation normally, that is to say, there is no error in the compilation. In this example, BSP is compiled using the following command. # DISTRO=fsl-imx-wayland MACHINE=imx6sxsabresd source fsl-setup-release.sh -b build-wayland # bitbake fsl-image-qt5          Then follow the steps below to add openjdk to the yocto layer:   Fetching openjdk-8 from Yocto website # cd ~/imx-release-bsp # cd sources # git clone git://git.yoctoproject.org/meta-java # cd meta-java # git checkout -b krogoth origin/krogoth  [Comment]    Yocto’s version is described in i.MX_Yocto_Project_User's_Guide.pdf 2.
