In this class, you will learn to use NXP’s FreeMASTER debug tool to aid in system development and debug. Although it is has many uses in various applications, we will demonstrate the features and use of FreeMASTER to simplify the development process with a motor control example based on our MagniV MC9S12ZVMRM microcontroller. Participants will see how useful and easy it is to use and configure so that system variables can be adjusted on the fly or watch system parameters real time.

Secure designs begin with a security model consisting of policies, an understanding of the threat landscape and the methods used to enforce physical and logical security. To protect firmware execution given today’s threat landscape, there must be a policy to only allow execution of authenticated firmware. The methods used to enforce this policy rely on MCU security technology to create a protected boot flow. The boot firmware can contain public key cryptography to authenticate application code. In addition to these components integrated in the end device, there are tools and steps that must be taken in the manufacturing environment using manufacturing hardware for code signing and host programs for provisioning. Join this session to explore the design and implementation of a secure boot with i.MX RT.

Level 3 -5 Autonomous vehicle systems are complex systems where algorithms for perception, localization, planning and control needs to run on real time hardware platform; all algorithm are developed considering off line data storage, simulation, high-definition (HD) mapping, and deep learning model training. This session will go through an overview of autonomous vehicle systems design trying to highlight the major state of the art technologies, mostly referring to algorithms implementation to meet real-time and reliability requirements. A NXP system partition solution will be discussed.

Bluetooth speakers and headsets, printers, cameras, projectors, set-top-boxes, TVs, Wi-Fi routers, fridges and washing machines, they all have one thing in common: Near-field-communication (NFC) which allows new features and easier handling. Just bringing two NFC-enabled devices close together is all it takes to create a connection. Accessories and consumables can be identified and authenticated without any user interaction. And commissioning an IoT node into a wireless network has never been as easy as it is now with NFC.

This training will take a user from “out of box” to a functioning IoT system including edge devices, gateway/border router, smart phone app and cloud connectivity, then run the system through its paces to highlight a subset of common IoT capabilities. The training will leverage the NXP Modular IoT Framework using a currently shipping, fully documented, Integrated Development Experience for the exercises. Southbound connectivity between gateway and the edge devices will be Thread and ZigBee®. Device commissioning will be via NFC and BLE. Northbound connectivity from gateway to cloud will be Wi-Fi. Cloud support will be via a major cloud provider. Note: Users will be able to use their own Android or iPhone with a recent OS version.

If you find yourself in need of using a low cost co-processor to act as a communications hub, why not consider a GPIO expander?  With the features in our latest GPIO expanders, this device can almost mimic a low cost MCU while being more cost-effective and reducing the complexity of your system. Come learn about the features and benefits, and actually see the GPIO expander in action on a simple PCB you’ll experiment with in this class.

The MQX Application Builder is the most recent addition to the MCUXpresso Config Tools. In this session you will use this powerful tool to rapidly create a sophisticated IoT application without requiring detailed knowledge of the protocols used, or how to configure them. By the end of the session you will have created an application that serves up customized web pages, uses the REST and MQTT protocols to remotely access key application parameters, interfaces with a cloud server, synchronize with a time server, remotely control your application with Lua Scripting Language, and more. Learn the power of using the MQX platform over other operating system such as FreeRTOS.

Security is critical to the growing market for IoT-enabled devices: There were already more than 5 billion connected devices in the world last year, and use is expected to grow to 12 billion by 2020. To support this rapid expansion, prominent internet players, including Alibaba, AWS, Google, IBM and Microsoft are establishing their own cloud services and industrial suppliers are moving quickly to broaden their private cloud offerings. At NXP, we believe strong security doesn't have to be hard to work with. Our "Plug & Trust" approach simplifies the implementation of strong security mechanisms in today's IoT devices. NXP's latest A71CH provides just this level of Plug & Trust IoT Security and delivers proven, chip-to-cloud security right out of the box, enabling every customer to secure IoT devices and safely connect to IoT clouds and services without writing security codes or exposing keys.

Automotive instrument clusters and in-vehicle infotainment rely more and more on complex application processors. They also require large software components to function properly. This complexity also increases risks of failures. There is also a growing need of safety, to detect and handle system faults in a timely manner. This is traditionally achieved by adding external parts dedicated to this purpose, increasing the system cost. We introduce the SafeAssure Rear View Camera and SafeAssure Display solutions, with which we show how a system design can be simplified, and cost reduce during the unique safety features integrated in the NXP i.MX 8 application processor.
