Question: Using Linux SDK 4.1.0, with CAAM drivers enabled, there is little noticeable difference in the performance of openssd compared to a kernel without the CAAM drivers. Tests were done using openssd. Test image AES-128 8192 byte block (M Bytes/sec) “openssl speed –evp aes-128-cbc” AES-128 8192 byte block (M Bytes/sec) With /dev/crypto “openssl speed –evp aes-128-cbc -engine cryptodev”  Ubuntu 11.04 Image 19.010 N/A Timesys 20.518 N/A SDK 4.1.0 LTIB 22.013 21.984 (errors reported) One can see that with SDK 4.1.0, performance is worse with crypto enabled.  This is probably due to the overhead of a faulty driver or incorrect implementation. The lowest number is for Ubuntu which could be attributed to the Unity GUI. Conclusion:  CAAM driver is not functional or I am using an improper testing procedure. Test Procedure: Board used is iMX6Q Sabre SDP Openssl was used for testing. Two command line commands were used, with and without the cryptodev engine. openssl speed –evp aes-128-cbc openssl speed –evp aes-128-cbc -engine cryptodev Openssl versions used in each build are slightly different: Ubuntu:              openssl 1.0.0e Timesys:              openssl  1.0.1e SDK 4.1.0:            openssl  1.0.1c Three versions of Linux were tested. Default kernel  4.0.0 with Ubuntu rootfs form image tarballs. Timesys kernel and root file system Kernel built with SDK 4.1.0 using LTIB with hardware crypto enabled Both 1 and 2 above did not have CRYPTODEV set in .config which contains the line “# CONFIG_CRYPTO_CRYPTODEV is not set” Option 3 had the line in .config as, “CONFIG_CRYPTO_CRYPTODEV=y” All three builds generate “/proc/crypto”  whose contents are attached.  A partial listing of /proc/crypto lists “caam” as a driver for all encryption methods supported.  Example printout for aes shown below: ame         : cbc(aes) driver       : cbc-aes-caam module       : kernel priority     : 3000 refcnt       : 1 selftest     : passed type         : ablkcipher async        : yes blocksize    : 16 min keysize  : 16 max keysize  : 32 ivsize       : 16 geniv        : eseqiv All three builds have “caam” and “enable_wait_mode=off” in the kernel command line in u-boot. One of the features that many users have asked about but still is a work in progress for android, is the extended desktop capabilities. Currently android allows you to mirror your desktop in two displays, but you are still unable to extend your desktop like you would with any other OS like Linux or Windows. This tutorial is intended to show you how to use a special object that allows you to control what should appear on a secondary or external display, replacing the screen mirroring. So how do we do this? A presentation is a container to display a user interface, in the form of a view hierarchy on an external display. This is pretty much like a Dialog since it displays its UI separated from its activity, but the difference is that the presentation shows in an external display while the dialog displays it in the primary screen. Now, because of this, the resources that are to be used by the UI on an external display are different then the resources used in the primary screen, the context of the presentation is NOT the activity. How do we choose where to send this presentation? The easiest way to do this is to use the MediaRouter API. What the mediarouter does is it keeps track of which audio and video routes are available on the system. The MediaRouter sends notifications whenever routes are selected or unselected. An application can simple watch for these notifications and show or dismiss a presentation on the preferred presentation display automatically. The preferred presentation display is the display that the mediarouter recommends that the application should use if it wants to show content on the secondary display. IF there is not a preferred presentation display, the application should show its content locally without using a presentation. Using the Mediarouter The MediaRouter is a system service obtained by calling getSystemService() and asking for the MEDIA_ROUTER_SERVICE. The recommended way to implement the Cast button  is to extend your activity from ActionBarActivity() and use the onCreateOptionMenu() method to add an options menu. When using SSI Slave Mode for ASRC_P2P function (https://community.freescale.com/docs/DOC-95342), the waveform of the converted 24bit data is abnormal(have some values between 0 and 1). When using SSI Master Mode, these abnormal data disappear. This patch shows how to enable SSI Master Mode based on ASRC_P2P patches. Because SSI Master Mode uses fixed data width for LRCLK(32bits for each L or R), and the SSI Dual FIFO Mode is not supported for ASRC_P2P, the converted 16bit data is not well supported in this patch. Suggestions: If you want to convert the audio data to 16bit, you can use SSI Slave Mode; if you want to convert the audio data to 24bit, you can use SSI Master Mode.

Recently I published this i.MX Dev Blog post about the Gateworks plugin gst-variable-rtsp-server support for i.MX 6. Now, you can check how to use it on i.MX 8 SoCs as well. 1. Several customers met uuu failure because their board doesn't use same CC logic (ptn5110) of i.MX8MM EVK. For this problem it's able to disable CC logic and to force device mode of u-boot. Shared the patch based on 4.14.78 for reference.

Overview In latest i.MX6UL/i.MX6ULL EVK boards, Ethernet PHY chip is upgraded with new revsion ID (01) although the same part number KSZ8081RNBIA is used. The detailed change is as follows: Mark on old Ethernet PHY chip (Silicon Revision ID is 0, Mark is A2):             KSZ8081             RNBIA             1439A2T             M147J18M02 Mark on new Ethernet PHY chip (Silicon Revision ID is 1, Mark is A3)               KSZ8081               RNBIA               1602SA3T                M159S28M23                                   Software Patch Linux BSP requires to be updated to support this new Ethernet PHY because PHY setting is designed to be associated with silicon ID. See attached patch for the details (Please note: i.MX6ULL/i.MX6UL EVK shared the same board file.) The formal patch is also included into the releases starting from L4.1.15_2.0.1. Some of SDIO cards need SD clock active for 4-bit mode, in order to generate interrupt. But i.MX6 SD controller enables SD clock gated by default, the attached patch is an example to disable SD clock gated. It's able to check if clock gated is enable or not by the register, "uSDHCx_PRES_STATE:SDOFF", of SD controller.

i.MX6Q Automotive board has one ADV7180 analog video decoder with 2 video inputs. By default, only input 1 is used (connector J42).     To connect 2 analog video sources and switch the display between them, the following changes are needed:   1 - Create a new IOCTL on V4L2_capture and ADV7180 device drivers to receive the information from user space application on what input will be selected. 2 - In this new IOCTL, use the "Fast Switch Script" for ADV7180 described at Analog Devices site: ADV7180 Fast Switch Script | EngineerZone  3 - Create a user space application to call the IOCTL mentioned on step 1.   See attached:   1 - 0001-ADV7180-Adding-input-switch-IOCTL.patch.zip - Patch to be applied on NXP kernel 4.1.15_1.0.0_ga 2 - example2.c.zip - Source code example of user space application. It changes the video input in each 2 seconds. Overview The purpose of this document is to collect general information about PCIe certificaton (Tx only) on i.MX 7Dual SabreSD board. Test Procedure Please refer to "PCIe Certification Guide for i.MX 7Dual" for more details about test procedure. Software Configuration PCIe certificaiton requires PCIe module to keep clocks always on. So software needs to enable "CONFIG_PCI_IMX6_COMPLIANCE_TEST" by default for the certification. Appropriative PCIe reference clock generator is recommended for certification. i.MX differential clock is not compliant with PCIe standard. So external reference clock is recommended for PCIe certification. i.MX 7Dual SabreSD board enables external reference clock by default and  and i.MX 7Dual default BSP has also adopted external reference clock as PCIe clock source by default. Test Report Please see attachment for i.MX 7Dual PCIe certification test report for Tx based on the following configuration: Software Image: L4.1.15_1.2.0_ga internal candidate image with enabling CONFIG_PCI_IMX6_COMPLIANCE_TEST configuration for Kernel image.
