1) Prepare the evaluation board hardware You can use the S32 Debug Probe to download code to target Connect S32 Debug Probe to S32V234 EVB using JTAG connector Connect S32 Debug Probe to PC via USB cable OR ethernet (if connected via ethernet, then USB power cable must also be connected) Connect the S32V234 EVB to PC via ethernet (typically via LAN) Connect power cable to evaluation board and switch on the power     2) Build the project using the A53 build option. 3) Start debug on A53 core. Project is now built, ELF file is read to be loaded to EVB for execution. 4) Before a debug session can be started, we must complete HOWTO: Setup A Remote Linux Connection in S32DS for Vision. 5) Select the debug drop-down menu and click Debug Configurations     6) Make sure the Debug_Remote_Linux debug configuration is selected and the connection setup in step 4 is selected (points to the IP address of your EVB). Click Debug     7) The first time you connect to a new IP address (i.e. the first time you debug after booting the board), you will receive a warning message, Click Yes and proceed.     The executable file is copied to Linux file system and gdbserver starts.   You may get an error message on the first try, this is normal. Just try it again and it will work. 😎 Once the Linux GDB has started on A53 core and the initial break point is reached in main(), it is almost ready for to start debug on ISP. Click Resume as the A53 must be running before we can attach the ISP debug thread. 9) Locate the ISP debug configuration from the Debug Configurations menu. You will see a debug configuration within the 'S32 Debugger' group (in our example, isp_sonyimx224_csi_dcu_ISP as shown below). This is the debug configuration we will use, however, it will require some setup.     10) You should notice the error message at the top of the window, just below the title and a red 'X' on the Debugger tab. Click on the Debugger tab to select it. We must setup the Debug Probe Connection before we can proceed. There are two options: Ethernet USB   If connecting the Probe via Ethernet, please refer to the Quick Start Guide or S32 Debug Probe User Guide provided with the S32 Debug Probe for instructions on how to connect it and determine the Hostname or IP address.     If connecting the Probe via USB, then the COM port will appear in the Port selection setting. If you have more than one S32 Debug Probe connected, you will need to determine which COM port is the correct one, otherwise, only the COM port for your S32 Debug Probe will appear.   11) This is already done for our example, but for your application, it may be necessary to setup the symbols for the ISP engine. Go to the Startup tab and:    a) Check the box for 'Load symbols'    b) Select the option for 'Use file', click Workspace... and locate the object file (.opius) for the ISP engine you wish to debug.   12) Click Apply then Debug. It may take a few moments for the APEX core debug to launch.   13) Wait for the ISP debug launch to complete. You may notice the A53 thread has terminated. This is normal and expected since the camera input cannot be suspended. When the launch completes, the context of the Debug window will switch to the ISP debug thread. 14) Enable Instruction Stepping mode and then step one time to load the object file which was setup in step 6. 15) The ISP debugging is now running and you can step through the ISP engine, look at registers, set a break point, etc. Note: only one hardware break point is supported for ISP.

Condition: Enable Stopindebug bit for PIT and STM module. Counter could be stop when debug project, but when i set debug mode on, counter not count, project can't be run. Analysis: In order for PIT timer to count when a FRZ bit is enabled, all cores on S32V23x devices need to be running. The reason why it does not work out of the box with current plugin configuration, is because we halt all device cores, which is especially necessary for RAM based projects. Solution: We created a start-up macro to keep all cores running when S32V232M80 or S32V234M100 debug sessions are launched. In order to use it, please go to the following directory without your S32DS3.2 IDE: eclipse\plugins\com.pemicro.debug.gdbjtag.pne_4.2.8.201909091700\win32\gdi\P&E\supportFiles_ARM\NXP\S32Vxxx. Please rename S32V234M100_All_Cores_Running.mac or S32V232M80_All_Cores_Running.mac to default macro names, saving existing default macros in renamed form, or a separate location: S32V234M100.mac or S32V232M80.mac.separate location: S32V234M100.mac or S32V232M80.mac.

Introduction In this document, we will discuss the S32DS Extensions & Updates tool and how to use it to install the device support you need.   S32 Design Studio for S32 Platform has been designed to allow users to customize their installation, enabling them to integrate support for just the NXP devices they need and just the tools they need. With the new modular design, parts of the tool have been moved into one of 4 different package types. The Platform and Tools Packages are default packages which are included as part of the base install, cannot be uninstalled, however, they can be updated.   The Platform package contains the base components of the IDE, modular installer, general documentation and integration mechanisms. The Tools Package contains the compilers, debuggers, and MSYS2. The Development Package contains hardware specific support such as New Project Wizard, S32 Configuration Tools, SDKs and Libraries. The Extension Package contains Accelerator Compiler, Debugger, Graph Tool and advanced SDKs.   Downloading the various components from our cloud-based update server, allows you to assemble and complete the customized installation of the tools and software to meet your development needs. It is also via the update server that the updates and bug fixes will be provided. And of course, all of these will be available as downloads from our product page for users who are installing to an offline PC. S32DS Extensions and Updates Menu When you first launch the S32 Design Studio for S32 Platform, you are presented with the S32DS Extensions and Updates menu. This menu provides a listing of the add-on packages which have been installed, those that are available to be installed, and those which have updates available to be installed. In the panel to the right is displayed detailed information specific to the package which is selected in the panel to the left. If there is an update available for the selected package, the currently installed version number will be shown on the left and the update version number will be shown on the right.       Online Package Installation Setup If your PC is connected to the internet, then it will link to NXP's update server (http://www.nxp.com/lgfiles/updates/Eclipse/S32DS_3.5) and any new or updated packages will be automatically added to the list. See Package Installation section below for installation procedure and details.       Offline Package Installation Setup If your PC is not connected to the internet, you must first download the desired packages from the NXP website, in the form of an archive file, to a separate PC and have them transferred to your target PC. Then you would select the link 'Go to Preferences' and add each downloaded archive file as a separate software site. After selecting OK, you will see the new packages contained within the archive files listed.   Procedure: Go to S32 Design Studio for S32 Platformdownload page and select Download for the package or update you need. Once the file is downloaded, it must be installed within S32 Design Studio. Launch S32DS and wait for the S32DS Extensions and Updates window to appear. Then select the 'Manage Sites' link. The Preferences window appears. Select the 'Add...' button to add a new software site to the list. The file you downloaded will be a software site. Now the Add Site window appears. Since the downloaded file is an archive of type ZIP, the 'Archive...' button should be used to select it. Navigate to the location where the file was saved. Now the downloaded file has been added as a new site. Select OK to return to the main S32DS Extensions and Updates window. Now the new package(s) will appear in the S32DS Extensions and Updates window, just as it would from the update server. See Package Installation section below for installation procedure and details.   Package Installation To install the new packages or updates, check the box to the left of the desired package in the left panel and select 'Install/Update'. The tool will automatically detect any dependencies on other packages and select them to meet all requirements for the installation.     Follow the prompts and the packages will be installed, followed by a request to restart S32 Design Studio.     Dependencies and Errors If there are dependencies between two or more updates, the tool will detect this and inform you of the package which cannot yet be installed. If you try to install a package which is not compatible with the version of S32 Design Studio you have installed, a notice will appear, and the package will not be listed in the S32DS Extensions and Updates menu.   Uninstalling Unwanted Packages If you no longer need a particular package or installed one by mistake, just check the box next to the package and select 'Uninstall'.       Reinstalling Packages If you believe your installed package has become corrupted, if you accidentally deleted part of it (such as an example project, etc.), or if for any reason you need to restore the package, just check the box next to the package and select 'Reinstall'.   Additional Information If you wish to not see the S32DS Extensions and Updates menu at startup, you can uncheck the box at the lower left. For internet connected PCs, the update server will still be linked and checked for new packages at S32DS startup, but you will no longer see the S32DS Extensions and Updates menu. However, you will still see a notice at the lower right of the tool at startup when new packages are detected.

So you've just installed the S32DS for Vision and are using it for the first time and would like to see how it works. Here is a quick and simple project to get you started.   1. Launch S32DS for Vision 2. Select 'S32DS Application Project' 3. Enter a name for the project 4. Select the 'A53 Linux' processor option 5. Click Next 6. Click Finish 7. Change to C/C++ perspective, click on 'Switch to C/C++ Development' 8. Build the project for Debug 9. Project is now built, ELF file is read to be loaded to EVB for execution. However, if we have not prepared the EVB, we must first complete HOWTO: Setup S32V234 EVB for debugging with S32DS for Vision and Linux BSP. 10. Once the EVB is properly prepared, we must complete HOWTO: Setup A Remote Linux Connection in S32DS for Vision. 11. With the project debug configuration and remote linux connection selected, select the debug dropdown menu and click Debug Configurations 12. Make sure the Debug_Remote_Linux debug configuration is selected and the connection setup in step 10 is selected (points to the IP address of your EVB). Click Debug 13. The first time you connect to a new IP address (i.e. the first time you debug after booting the board), you will receive a warning message, Click Yes and proceed. 14. The executable file is copied to Linux file system and gdbserver starts. 15. The Debug perspective is opened. You can now step through the code*     *Only debugging of the A53 code is supported by Linux GDB. For multicore debugging, including ISP and APEX2, additional debugger and probe(S32 Debugger with S32 Debug Probe, Lauterbach, etc) will be required.

Requirements: SD card with installed Linux image connected to EVB (https://community.nxp.com/docs/DOC-335023 ) Serial link connection between PC and EVB (HOWTO: Setup A Remote Linux Connection in S32DS for Vision )  EVB connected to network   Procedure: Turn on EVB and connect to EVB via serial link using putty or any other terminal (115200 baud, 8N1). Login as the root user. Edit network interfaces configuration file by command vi /etc/network/interfaces and modify (press INS key to switch vi editor to edit mode) the file by the way as shown on next screenshot. Set IP address from range of your PC machine network settings.      The vi /etc/network/interfaces string is cutoff, because the OS acts during typing. The OS-printed line. [    29.817839] random: nonblocking pool is initialized (it varies with each boot). is written automatically by the OS a few seconds after login.  These characters do not make a difference.  Just enter the string as instructed and press Enter.  You will see the screen as follows.   Save new settings by :w command (press ESC key to switch vi editor to command mode) and exit from vi by :q command.   Restart network by command /etc/init.d/networking restart         Check the IP address by command ifconfig and try ping to your PC machine.        Troubleshooting: If you can't ping to PC machine and IP address is the same as you requested - check IP address on PC side and cable connection. If the IP address on EVB is different than you requested - check if you commented out the dhcp configuration. You may also try to reboot EVB instead of restarting network only.

This document shows, how to set optimization level for whole project and how to edit single files with different optimization level. As soon as the project is created, it has set optimization level to 0 by default. This means, compiler do neither size optimization nor speed optimization. Optimization level can be set for every project according to the project requirements. 1) Optimization level set Right click the project and select project properties. Click C/C++ Build ->Settings->Standard S32DS C Compiler ->Optimization. You can see, optimization level is none -O0. Click the arrow on the right side of the list and choose the required optimization level. There are five options you can choose. Details description of the options are included in S32DS reference manual. Chosen optimization is used for all files in the project. 2) Change optimization level for single file in the project If you want to change optimization level for single file and do no affect another files, select required file, right click on it and select properties. As you can see, there are limited possibilities to set the file itself. Select required optimization level, click apply and close the window. Now, selected file has different options than the rest of the project. Hope it helps. Martin

The S32 Debugger included within the S32 Design Studio for S32 Platform IDE provides the capability to access the flash programming capabilities of the S32 Debug Probe via GTA command line and the GDB. This instruction details the steps to perform flash programming of the S32R45 EVB via the JTAG interface with the S32 Debug Probe.   Note: currently only QSPI flashing is supported.   Preparation Install S32 Design Studio IDE  Install the Development Package for the device you are debugging. In this case, the S32R4xx development package. This is important as the S32 Debugger support within it contains the device-specific Python scripts required for initialization of the cores.    Setup the hardware Confirm the setup of the S32R45 evaluation board.  Confirm the JTAG connection. The S32R45 evaluation board supports both 10- and 20- pin JTAG connections. Both are supported by the S32 Debugger and S32 Debug Probe. Connect the power supply cable Setup the S32 Debug Probe Connect the S32 Debug Probe to the evaluation board via JTAG cable. Refer to the S32 Debug Probe User Manual for installation instructions. Use the JTAG connection as was confirmed in the previous step. Use the New Project Wizard in S32 Design Studio to create a bare board project. The process is very straightforward, but there are some choices to be made. Which processor, toolchain, SDKs, and debugger you want supported, are the most important. However, you also have options to select on how many cores should be enabled, which C library to use,  I/O Support, FPU Support, C/C++ language. All of these are explained within the user manual, but the default settings should work for most users. In this document, we walk you through the process from start to finish.   1. Launch S32 Design Studio 2. Select File->New->S32DS Application Project or use quick button S32DS Application Project from Dashboard view 3. Enter a project name. 4. Expand the folder family and select the desired core. For example 'S32Z270 (Boot core:M33)' 5. Click Next 6. Notice there are options for I/O Support, FPU Support, Language, SDKs, and Debugger. Notice different options are supported for Debugger, depending upon the selected Processor. Also, some families have multicore projects. If you want to use single core, leave only the first Boot core checked. 7. Click Finish. The new project is generated. It contains a sample bareboard application. It is possible to build and debug this project without any changes. Add your content to this base project.

When a new application project is created using the New Project Wizard, it is possible to select the debugger to be used. This results in the associated debugger configurations being created within the new project. But what if support for multiple debuggers is required or it is desired to switch to a different debugger? There are easy ways to resolve this. One is as simple as creating a new debug configuration. Another method is by creating new application project, selecting the new debugger to be supported. Then either repurposing the associated debug configuration or duplicating then modifying the debug configuration to support instead the previously existing project. This minimizes the effort by benefiting from the automation of the New Project Wizard.   Detailed below are the steps to add a new debug configuration.  Create A New S32 Debugger Configuration Load the existing project. For this demonstration, the SDK project ‘hello_world_s32v234’ will be used. Select the project so it appears highlighted in blue. Notice that the other project, ‘New_App_Project’, is bold text. This is because the main.c file open in the editor window to the right is the currently selected source file and is from this project. This has no effect on the process detailed in this document. Check that the existing project has been build and the executable is present. If the executable is not present, then an error will be displayed within the Debug Configurations menu and the executable file will need to be selected in a later additional step after it has been created. Open the Debug Configurations menu. Run -> Debug Configurations   Now select the Debugger Group for which you wish to create the new configuration. In this case, we will select ‘S32 Debugger’. Next, click ‘New Launch Configuration’ Now a new Debug Configuration has been created for your project and for the S32 Debugger. Most of the fields are already completed for you. Select the Debugger tab to see the source of the error message. The error message indicates ‘Specify Device and Core’. So click on ‘Select device and core’. Now expand the lists until the Device and Core are visible. Select the correct core for your project. In the demonstration example, the correct Device and Core are ‘S32V234’ and ‘M4’, respectively. Click OK, when done. If you have a debug probe connected, it may have been detected. If not, the Debug Probe Connection section will need to be completed. Now select the ‘Common’ tab to setup the storage location for this new Debug Configuration. Select ‘Shared file’ and then ‘Browse…’ Expand the lists until ‘Project_Settings/Debugger’ is open. Select ‘Debugger’, then click OK. Now the basic debug configuration settings are complete. It is now ready to be used and the Debug button could be clicked to start debug. Otherwise, you may have more customizations to make, such as for Attach Mode. The S32 Debugger included within the S32 Design Studio for S32 Platform IDE provides the capability to access the flash programming capabilities of the S32 Debug Probe via the S32 Debugger.   Note: currently only QSPI flashing is supported.   Preparation Install S32 Design Studio IDE  Install the Development Package for the device you are debugging. In this case, the S32R4xx development package. This package is important as the S32 Debugger support component contains the device-specific Python scripts required for initialization of the cores.   Open the application project from which the flash image will be generated. Follow the steps in HOWTO: Generate S-Record/Intel HEX/Binary file , selecting the 'Raw Binary' option. Build the project, generating the binary executable. This will be our application binary input to the IVT Tool. The IVT Tool must be used to generate the BLOB image which can be programmed to flash memory device and loaded to the RAM by the BootROM. Follow the steps in HOWTO: Use IVT Tool To Create A BLOB Image S32R45. The resulting BLOB image file is what can be flashed to the device.   Procedure Open Debug Configuration menu Select 'S32 Debugger Flash Programmer', then right-click and select New. Enter an name for the new configuration and click Add... to add the file to be flashed. Click Browse... to select the project from the workspace where the application binary is located Select the project and click OK By default, the ELF file is found. Click Search in project to select the binary file. Select the .bin file and click OK Now we must enter the base address. Typically, this could be 0, but you may have other requirements. Click OK. Now we are ready to configure the debugger connection settings. Click on the Debugger tab. Starting from the top and working our way down, click on Select device. Select the device and click OK The correct Initialization script will automatically be set. Set the Debug Probe Connection settings to match your setup. When done, click Apply To start the flashing, click Debug Flashing progress will be displayed. When complete, the Debug perspective will show at terminated thread.   Happy flashing with GDB! Note, to debug this application since it will be subsequently started by the BootROM: use 's32r45_attach.py' in the Initialization script field on the debugger tab of the Debug Configurations menu Make the following adjustments on the Startup tab within the Debug Configurations menu: Uncheck "Load image" Check “Set program counter at:” and enter the value “Reset_Handler”
