Near-field-communication (NFC) is the better, safer way to protect brands while ensuring ease of use for accessories and consumables. With NFC, the device itself can verify the authenticity and can configure operating modes or change settings based on the type of accessory or consumable. With a standard NFC phone, a user can check the originality or trigger a reorder through a simple tap. In this presentation we will show which options exist on NFC tag and reader side, and how to implement a solution in a practical example.

Bluetooth speakers and headsets, printers, cameras, projectors, set-top-boxes, TVs, Wi-Fi routers, fridges and washing machines, they all have one thing in common: Near-field-communication (NFC) which allows new features and easier handling. Just bringing two NFC-enabled devices close together is all it takes to create a connection. Accessories and consumables can be identified and authenticated without any user interaction. And commissioning an IoT node into a wireless network has never been as easy as it is now with NFC.

Business Line Smart Antenna Solution delivers a broad range of RF products for many different applications ranging from mobile phones to wireless infrastructure. All these applications require high performance RF products to deliver reliable, high data rate connections. This training will show how our RF products can be successfully used in IoT applications to improve the RF connection: range extension by using LNAs in the receive chain or by adding a PA at the transmit side. Our wide product portfolio ensures that the different needs of IoT (frequency range, power consumption and performance gain) can be met.

This session will introduce the Sensor Toolbox, the complete ecosystem for product development with the NXP sensors. The key focal points would be introducing the IoT Sensing SDK (ISSDK) application development framework, Freedom Sensor Toolbox-Community Edition (STB-CE) and a wide range of the new sensor boards. The highlight of the training would be showcasing multiple STB-CE out of box sensor demonstrations and the steps to get started with IoT Sensing SDK (ISSDK) sensor application development.

When choosing the NFC device for a new design, the system architect must consider many parameters. Usually a strong focus is put on hardware specific aspects like the environment, possible antenna size, performance and interface. To avoid unpleasant surprises during software implementation phase, software has to be taken into account as well from the beginning. Different NFC IC categories (NFC Frontends, NFC Controller, Connected Tag) have different strengths, depending on the software environment. The way how highly integrated operating systems like Linux are structured brings both new challenges and advantages. This session examines the considerations necessary when designing in NFC in different operating systems or "bare metal" systems. It also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the different device categories in dependence of the designated environment.
