Near-field-communication (NFC) is the better, safer way to protect brands while ensuring ease of use for accessories and consumables. With NFC, the device itself can verify the authenticity and can configure operating modes or change settings based on the type of accessory or consumable. With a standard NFC phone, a user can check the originality or trigger a reorder through a simple tap. Based on the brand new NFC Nutshell Kit we will show which options exist on NFC tag and reader side, and how to implement a solution into even space constraint environments.

Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) makes deterministic Ethernet possible. TSN provides evolution for industrial real-time networks and is a set of IEEE® 802 Ethernet sub-standards defined by the IEEE TSN task group. In this session, learn about the key TSN standards and how they work together. Understand more about NXP solutions for both TSN endpoint and TSN switch with abundant software support based on Arm®v8 platforms.

Whether you are looking for an easy and cost-efficient parametrization solution or want to use a smartphone for ad-hoc diagnosis of a device - Near-field-communication (NFC) makes this possible now. Or you might want to communicate with a fully sealed, batteryless device? Learn in this session about many new use cases, in which NFC simplifies handling, saves cost or enables features which were not possible before in industrial or healthcare applications. With iOS11 now opened up for NFC reading there are more possibilities than you would have imagined!

This class will teach you how to spin a BLDC, PMSM or ACIM motor with KMS. You do not need prior motor control experience. You will use the KMS GUI to do motor tuning and MCUXpresso IDE to develop a stand-alone motor control project. Bring your own motor and we will test it with KMS. With your registration please indicate the voltage and max current of your motor.

Edge computing puts cloud-computing software infrastructure on embedded-class processing platforms to reduce latency and uplink bandwidth consumption. Ranging from 1-core to 16-core devices, integrating important I/O features and integrating a hardware root of trust, the Layerscape family is ideal for edge-computing platforms. Complementary software like EdgeScale increases these platforms ease of use and accelerates customers' time to market. This session provides an overview of running Edge compute applications on Layerscape family of processors. It covers the concept of Edge computing and why it is needed, and goes on to elaborate the various use-cases where it can be used. It explains how customers can use the Layerscape SDK to run container based Edge compute applications, and leverage popular Edge Compute frameworks from AWS, Azure, Alibaba amongst others.

Addressing IoT applications requires copious amounts of Non-Volatile memory space. Supporting numerous connectivity stack options, edge compute algorithms, sensor data storage and/or all of the above requires millions of bytes. Fortunately, NXP’s MCUs in the crossover space, like the i.MX RT integrate the latest capabilities for supporting execute in place (XIP) from cost effective serial NOR flash devices. Join this class to get hands-on with XIP and the i.MX RT.

Secure designs begin with a security model consisting of policies, an understanding of the threat landscape and the methods used to enforce physical and logical security. To protect firmware execution given today’s threat landscape, there must be a policy to only allow execution of authenticated firmware. The methods used to enforce this policy rely on MCU security technology to create a protected boot flow. The boot firmware can contain public key cryptography to authenticate application code. In addition to these components integrated in the end device, there are tools and steps that must be taken in the manufacturing environment using manufacturing hardware for code signing and host programs for provisioning. Join this session to explore the design and implementation of a secure boot by making use of the Arm mbed TLS open source software and protect against firmware attacks.

Automotive instrument clusters and in-vehicle infotainment rely more and more on complex application processors. They also require large software components to function properly. This complexity also increases risks of failures. There is also a growing need of safety, to detect and handle system faults in a timely manner. This is traditionally achieved by adding external parts dedicated to this purpose, increasing the system cost. We introduce the SafeAssure Rear View Camera and SafeAssure Display solutions, with which we show how a system design can be simplified, and cost reduce during the unique safety features integrated in the NXP i.MX 8 application processor.
