The embedded Linux on the LS1021A-IoT can be used to display information sent and received from the KW24 sensor boards and can also forward the information to a cloud application. The demo simulates an illustrative automated parking structure system that tracks and displays open parking spaces locally for drivers, as well as remotely to allow for managing parking availability across multiple lots for activities such as major sporting and entertainment events where tens of thousands of cars need to be directed to open parking in a short period of time. Overview The FAA now requires drone owners to register any device weighing more than 0.55 lbs. (250 g). For drones currently in the field, enforcing this new law might be problematic, as it relies on the honor system to some extent. But for new devices, NXP offers an easy enforcement method. How it Works NXP’s drone registration solution uses low-cost NFC technology to easily enforce compliance. Manufacturers could include an NFC reader within the drone housing. NXP makes this step straightforward by providing reference designs for drop-into-place design ease. Upon registration, consumers could receive an official government-issued registration certificate that comprises an NXP encrypted NFC tag in adhesive label form. Upon adhesion to the drone housing, the drone control electronics would wirelessly read the certificate. If valid, the drone microcontroller enables functionality. If not, the drone will not power up. Benefits Electronic registration provides more than just ease to government regulatory bodies, it also facilitates regulation of that drone to ensure the safety of all citizens. Upon application of the registration certificate sticker, the NFC chip inside the sticker could convey identification information to the drone microcontroller, such as the registration number, model/serial number of the drone, and its zoning classification. Because this information would now be housed with the drone, drone manufacturers could choose to broadcast select details, such as the classification information, via appropriate long-range wireless communication while in flight. Demo One of the new features that can be found on the FRDM-K82F is the FlexIO header. It’s be specifically designed to interface with the very cost-efficient OV7670 camera, and uses 8 FlexIO lines to read data from the camera. By using the FlexIO feature, it makes it easy to connect a camera to a Kinetis MCU. A demo is included with Kinetis SDK 1.3 which streams the video data from the camera to a host computer over USB     FlexIO: The FlexIO is a highly configurable module found on select Kinetis devices which provides a wide range of functionality including: • Emulation of a variety of serial/parallel communication protocols • Flexible 16-bit timers with support for a variety of trigger, reset, enable and disable conditions • Programmable logic blocks allowing the implementation of digital logic functions on-chip and configurable interaction of internal and external modules • Programmable state machine for offloading basic system control functions from CPU   All with less overhead than software bit-banging, while allowing for more flexibility than dedicated IP. Overview The reference design demonstrates sensorless control of the 3-Phase Switched Reluctance (SR) motor using 56F80x or 56F83XX Digital Signal Controllers. It can also be adapted to 56F81XX Digital Signal Controllers. The concept of this application is that of a sensorless speed closed loop SR drive using flux linkage position estimation. An inner current loop with PI controller is included. The change in phase resistance during motor operation due to its temperature dependency creates errors in the position estimation and significantly affects the performance of the drive. Therefore, a novel algorithm for on-the-fly estimation of the phase resistance is included. The Digital Signal Controller runs the main control algorithm. Rotor position is evaluated using the sensorless flux linkage estimation algorithm. The actual flux linkage is calculated at the rate of the PWM frequency and is compared with the reference flux linkage for a given commutation angle. When the actual flux linkage exceeds the reference, the commutation of the phases is done; the actual phase is turned off and the following phase is turned on. Flux linkage error is used for estimation of the phase resistance at low speeds (US Patent No.: 6,366,865). The actual speed of the motor is determined using the commutation instances. Based on the speed error, the speed controller generates the desired phase current. When the phase is commutated, it is turned on with a duty cycle of 100%. Then, during each PWM cycle, the actual phase current is compared with the desired current. As soon as the actual current exceeds the desired current, the current controller is turned on. The current controller controls the output duty cycle until the phase is turned off (following commutation). Finally, the 3-Phase PWM control signals are generated. The procedure is repeated for each commutation cycle of the motor.
