The automotive industry is rapidly evolving and the car is being transformed from a simple mode of transport to a personalized mobile information hub. All these new electronic functions bring great benefits to the driver, increasing comfort, convenience, safety and efficiency. But these features come with new risks, too. Modern vehicles feature wireless interfaces connect the in-vehicle systems of these ‘Connected Cars’ to external networks, which form entry points for hackers. This session will describe a proposal for a layered automotive security architecture providing a defense-in-depth approach to securing a vehicle including secure external interfaces, secure domain isolation, secure internal communication and secure software execution. In addition, the session will describe how all these security layers can be supported through the full vehicle life cycle of design, build, use and scrap.

Ethernet adoption in new OEM platforms is accelerating, as a result of increased media, communication, and ADAS streams between different end points in vehicles. The required Quality of Service and synchronization is typically achieved through the implementation of Audio Video Bridging (AVB) specifications, or derivatives of AVB. NXP has a unique position in the market given our capability to offer a full solution for AVB in the car, from end points (MPUs as well as MCUs), PHYs, switches, plus the needed software stacks. In addition, the software stacks are full featured, including critical but often initially forgotten components such as Media Clock Recovery. Get an introduction to the basis of the AVB technology, and how NXP can help you deploy AVB in your products.

IoT is all about ‘’Sense, Think and Act’’. Automation systems and decision making algorithms running in the Cloud or on the Edge need to be fed with the right data, actuators must be integrity protected and receive valid commands. Moreover data protection, Privacy and protection of business models become paramount to any IoT deployment. NXP’s new generation of embedded Secure Element SE050 redefines security and trust anchoring in IoT devices. Part of NXP’s ’Plug & Trust‘ solutions delivering security right out of the box, the new SE050 is the convergence between integrity protection of a trusted IoT platform, flexible and secured connections of edge to multiple Cloud services, and secure sensing. In this session the new SE050 security enclave for IoT devices will be introduced, along with the new use cases it enables for edge sensors as well as gateways and edge computing platforms.

Security is becoming a quintessential topic for any OEM, and possibly for the entire industry, as evolutions of Autonomous drive capabilities are inexorably tied to the ability to secure the car. A number of components in the security architecture of nodes in any vehicle are very close to the SoC, exploiting hardware capabilities to achieve intended functionality. Answering customer needs, NXP is providing a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) stack, which provides a significant number of security features required by the Automotive needs. Get an introduction to the basis of NXP’s TEE stack, capabilities, and how does this integrates in the typical secure node architecture.
