Edge computing puts cloud-computing software infrastructure on embedded-class processing platforms to reduce latency and uplink bandwidth consumption. Ranging from 1-core to 16-core devices, integrating important I/O features and integrating a hardware root of trust, the Layerscape family is ideal for edge-computing platforms. Complementary software like EdgeScale increases these platforms ease of use and accelerates customers' time to market. This session provides an overview of running Edge compute applications on Layerscape family of processors. It covers the concept of Edge computing and why it is needed, and goes on to elaborate the various use-cases where it can be used. It explains how customers can use the Layerscape SDK to run container based Edge compute applications, and leverage popular Edge Compute frameworks from AWS, Azure, Alibaba amongst others.

In the last 10 years, Green Hills has observed carmaker and Tier 1 customers expand from the traditional segments of powertrain, airbags and braking ECUs into graphics-rich dashboards, open source operating sytems and the secure Connected Car. A leading requirement is ECU consolidation while keeping ASIL safety intact. This requires the run-time architecture to safety and securely run guest operating systems Linux or Android on the same single core (or across multiple cores as SMP) alongside safety or security-critical applications like instrument clusters, gateways, V2X and ADAS. Here, we'll take a closer look at the customer’s pain points and goals, and we’ll summarize various industry solutions, including the INTEGRITY Multivisor secure hypervisor.

The number of ECUs in a car is increasing dramatically on a year by year basis. Modern cars are starting to introduce the concept of centralizing multiple domains (Infotainment, ADAS, etc.) in a single ECU and separate them using technologies like virtualization, multicore or multiple SOCs. Although separated, these entities need to communicate and implementing a software communication solution which is scalable, portable, open and easy to program is key to offering a complete software enablement to our customers. This session will present NXP software solution for communication within a domain and between domains controllers in an ECU.

In the past, auto HMI developers approached the instrument cluster, infotainment system and any other auxiliary driver displays as separate projects, each with their own unique challenges and requirements. With eCockpit HMI developers are tasked with approaching the cluster, IVI system, HUD, rear-seat entertainment and other screens in the vehicle as a single system of displays that have been fragmented within the vehicle and even run on a singular MPU. Examine the requirements for these new integrated cockpit systems. Discuss how design teams can deliver consistent language, look and feel across multiple displays with separate and varied purposes. Talk about the concerns related to safety and certification for system as it applies to a variety of auto standards and reveal how teams can successfully design these systems for a single processor family and reuse across low- high-end auto models.
