This session will focus on the memory choices for several of the more popular i.MX 6 and i.MX 7 series as well as NXP’s newest and most powerful microprocessor, the i.MX 8 series. Most processors can support different types of volatile (DRAM) and non-volatile (Flash) memories. For example, the i.MX 7 can support low power DRAM (LPDDR), LPDDR2 and LPDDR3 as well as the standard DDR3 memory. For flash memories, the i.MX 7 supports parallel NOR, serial NOR or NAND Flash. Each of these memory choices has technical advantages and disadvantages as well as the overall market acceptance and expected longevity. The session will also discuss two new high performance memory technologies that the i.MX 8 plans to support, LPDDR4 and XTRMFlash. This session will allow you, the designer to make an informed decision when it comes to selecting memory for your design.

Bluetooth speakers and headsets, printers, cameras, projectors, set-top-boxes, TVs, Wi-Fi routers, fridges and washing machines, they all have one thing in common: Near-field-communication (NFC) which allows new features and easier handling. Just bringing two NFC-enabled devices close together is all it takes to create a connection. Accessories and consumables can be identified and authenticated without any user interaction. And commissioning an IoT node into a wireless network has never been as easy as it is now with NFC.

The vehicle becomes the most complex node in the Internet of Things and driver assistance functions will ultimately merge in the autonomous vehicle. On the way more and more consumer components make it into vehicles and the need for unprecedented compute performance is redefining “high-end” in cars. NXP is a leader in Automotive since decades and the leader in highest-end compute Networking solutions. This session will highlight 66 critical differences that may generically exist between automotive and consumer components as identified by a ZVEI industry workgroup (German Association of Electronics Industry) e.g. impacting reliability, quality and lifetime of vehicles. We will demonstrate how NXP’s capabilities across all product segments and performance ranges might address many of your hidden risks providing an excellent starting point towards your autonomous vehicle.

This session will go into the detail of the software enablement around the BlueBox v2.0, aka “Blue Box Min”. From an engineering perspective, topics will include: The SoCs in the platform and it’s layout; Booting the individual SoCs; Linux options between and inter-communication between them; Discussion of middleware options (including ROS versions, Polysync and others); How ADAS vision perception is accomplished with Neusoft ADAS perception; Combined to achieve level 2/3 ADAS with AutonomouStuff; Extra topics: OpenCV, OpenSSL security between subsystems and more. Please expect a non-marketing lecture explaining the internals of this enablement.

NFC pairing makes life in a multi-device world more convenient. Tap-to-pair has become a common habit when connecting an NFC-enabled smartphone conveniently to a wireless speaker. Bringing this experience to the next level, even a multi-speaker audio system can be set up with NFC. If all speakers are equipped with an NFC chip, you simply tap one speaker to another to establish the Bluetooth® connection. That's what we call a true wireless stereo system - and it works with any phone, no matter if it is NFC-enabled. Same use case can be shown with NFC headsets. The workshop will guide participants through the implementation of an NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pairing use case. All participants should bring an NFC Enabled Android Device running Android version (Kit Kat) 4.4x or higher. In addition please install "NFC TagWriter" and "NFC TagInfo" from the Google Play Store.

In electronic systems, it is typical to have a central processing unit that interfaces with other peripheral devices, other sub-systems or the user. Often, the signals from these interconnects may be incompatible on both ends. Therefore, various semiconductor devices such as analog switches, voltage level translators and GPIO expanders are often used to bridge between the interconnects on the board. In this session, we will explore the application of these interface devices from NXP and discuss their applications in various customer systems.

As IC geometries continue to shrink and switching speeds increase, designing electromagnetic systems and printed circuit boards to meet the required signal integrity and EMC specifications has become even more challenging. A new design methodology is required. Specifically, the utilization of an electromagnetic physics-based design methodology to control the field energy in your design will be discussed. This training module will walk through the development process and provide you with guidelines for building successful, cost effective printed circuit boards.
