The self driving car has a major impact on ECUs power and complexity and the network architecture connecting them together. The sheer fact that the driver is now a mere passenger with potentially limited options of taking back control raises significant functional safety questions that cannot be addressed with conventional approaches. In this presentation, we discuss how autonomous driving is impacting the functional safety requirements for automotive Ethernet switches and PHYs. We will review what functional safety for a component really means, going beyond marketing figures and ticking off feature lists. Finally, we will discuss how NXP is attacking this challenge in our current portfolio with a hint to the products to come.

The vehicle becomes the most complex node in the Internet of Things and driver assistance functions will ultimately merge in the autonomous vehicle. On the way more and more consumer components make it into vehicles and the need for unprecedented compute performance is redefining “high-end” in cars. NXP is a leader in Automotive since decades and the leader in highest-end compute Networking solutions. This session will highlight 66 critical differences that may generically exist between automotive and consumer components as identified by a ZVEI industry workgroup (German Association of Electronics Industry) e.g. impacting reliability, quality and lifetime of vehicles. We will demonstrate how NXP’s capabilities across all product segments and performance ranges might address many of your hidden risks providing an excellent starting point towards your autonomous vehicle.

Every Linux distribution provides features useful in product development - each SoC provides features necessary to a product's success. If you can't take advantage of the distribution of your choice or the SoC of your choice - product development is hampered or stopped altogether. NXP provides technology easing the adoption of SoC specific components into the distribution of your choice. Learn more about this technology, and practical tips and tricks on how to build and use selected components from LSDK at the component isolated level. Topics include building and deploying PPA and boot loaders, building and booting the Linux kernel, and building and deploying select user space components. Emphasis is on native building because it's easier. This will be a two hour session to leave time for Q&A.

With the very public hacks of some major vehicle brands in 2015, there is a renewed focus on vehicle security. There is a large range of vehicle electrical architectures, with significant regional variations, but there is an acceleration towards a domain orientated secure network. This presentation will look at the growing importance of the central gateway in a world of increased connectivity and security. As Ethernet becomes more prevalent, the topic of IP routing & firewall will be introduced and its role in adding another security layer. Finally, the role of the central gateway in enabling OTA software updated beyond the telematics unit, to the entire network will be presented.

The automotive industry is rapidly evolving and the car is being transformed from a simple mode of transport to a personalized mobile information hub. All these new electronic functions bring great benefits to the driver, increasing comfort, convenience, safety and efficiency. But these features come with new risks, too. Modern vehicles feature wireless interfaces connect the in-vehicle systems of these ‘Connected Cars’ to external networks, which form entry points for hackers. This session will describe how a defense-in-depth security model can be supported through the full vehicle life cycle of design, build, use and scrap.  Required elements include risk assessment, security by design, threat detection, incident response, and establishing a security culture.
