RT1180-EVK: No compatible probes available. Hi, I have installed MCUXpressoIDE (25.6.136) and the RT1180 SDK (26.06). When I try to debug one of the demo applications, I get the following message: Connect to target: MIMXRT1189xxxxx No compatible probes available. They may be disabled, disconnected, not powered, already in use or not compatible with this target. I've tried with the 26.03 RT1180 SDK and have had no luck. This was previously working before, so I'm not sure what happened. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! Re: RT1180-EVK: No compatible probes available. Dear @sismail ,
Are you currently using the default LinkServer Probe?
If the LinkServer Probe is not available, could you please try using a J-Link Probe instead:
One possibility is that the firmware on the onboard MCU-Link may have been accidentally updated to the J-Link firmware during previous use. In that case, the board would no longer be recognized as a LinkServer Probe.
If the board can be connected successfully using a J-Link Probe, that would strongly indicate that the onboard MCU-Link firmware has indeed been programmed with J-Link firmware.
Best Regards,
Shelly
Re: RT1180-EVK: No compatible probes available. Both the default LinkServer probe and J-Link Probe have the same error: No compatible probes available. They may be disabled, disconnected, not powered, already in use or not compatible with this target. Re: RT1180-EVK: No compatible probes available. Dear @sismail ,
Please perform the following checks:
1.Verify that the evaluation board can run a program normally
Use the MCUXpresso Secure Provisioning Tools to program an LED-blinking application through USB in Serial Download mode. Then switch the board back to QSPI Boot Mode and reset the board. Check whether the LED-blinky application runs correctly after reboot.
2. Check the onboard MCU-Link jumper settings
Please confirm the following jumper settings:
JP5: Open
JP3: Open
JP6: Connected to pins 1–2
to make sure that the board is not configured for use with an external Debug Probe.
3. Check whether the PC recognizes the Probe using LinkServer
Run the command linkserver probes in a command-line window:
Please check whether the onboard MCU-Link Probe appears in the command output.
Please share the results of the above checks, so that we can further investigate the issue.
Best regards,
Shelly Re: RT1180-EVK: No compatible probes available. Hi Shelly, I am not sure how to use the MCUXpresso Secure Provisioning Tools but I have confirmed that the MCU-Link jumper settings are correct, and the PC does not recognize the Prove using LinkServer: ➜ LinkServer_26.9.130 ./LinkServer probes # Description Serial Device Board Capabilities --- ------------- -------- -------- ------- -------------- Re: RT1180-EVK: No compatible probes available. Dear @sismail ,
There may be an issue with your onboard MCU-Link.
Could you please try:
Step 1: Power the EVK
Connect a 5 V power supply to J2.
Turn SW1 to the ON position.
Step 2: Connect the USB cable
Connect the USB cable to J53 (MCU-Link USB).
At this point, the PC should enumerate an MCU-Link VCOM Port:
For MCUXpresso Secure Provisioning Tool (SPT), please refer to the official tutorial below:

Re: RT1180-EVK: No compatible probes available. Hi Shelly, I've followed the steps for powering the EVK and connecting the USB cable. Where can I see the ports dropdown? Despite these steps I'm still not able to see any probes discovered Re: RT1180-EVK: No compatible probes available. Dear @sismail ,
You should be able to see the enumerated COM port in Windows Device Manager. If the MCU-Link is not enumerated successfully, please first check the power supply. If the power supply is normal, then a hardware issue should be considered.
We have the following suggestions:
1. Use the MCUXpresso Secure Provisioning Tool (SPT) to program a simple LED-blinky application :https://mcuxpresso.nxp.com/mcuxsdk/latest/boards/RT/evkmimxrt1180/gettingStarted/topics/bootable_image_generation.html
2 Check the status of LED D39 and D3 on the board. D3 should remain ON, while D39 should be blinking.
Best Regards,
Shelly
