I'm looking for a suitable external video encoder / CVBS DAC to generate a PAL/NTSC composite output on an i.MX8-based board.
Requirements:
- 1 CVBS output (PAL/NTSC)
Questions:
- What do you currently recommend as a video encoder to pair with i.MX8?
- Is the ADV7391/ADV7393 still the go-to part, or is there a newer/better supported alternative?
Thanks in advance!
Hello @kbch
Hope you are doing well.
The i.MX8 family does not have a native BT656 parallel output interface, unlike i.MX6 which featured an IPU with dedicated BT656/BT1120 output ports.
The i.MX8 family display outputs are: MIPI-DSI, HDMI, and LVDS (depending on the exact part number).
Q1.
There is no NXP-officially recommended or kernel-supported external CVBS encoder for i.MX8 at this time. The i.MX8 does not natively expose a BT656 output bus.
Q2.
The adv739x Linux kernel driver does exist and was used for i.MX6, not i.MX8 family.
Best regards,
Salas.
