A typical debug session will begin by downloading code to Flash and then debugging from main() onwards. However, to explore an already running system a debug connection (attach) can be made to the target MCU without affecting the code execution (at least until the user chooses to halt the MCU!).   Note: Source level debug of a running target is only possible if the sources of the project to be attached exactly match the binary code running on the target.   Click the (Debug As) button on the toolbar, then click Debug Configurations from the drop-down menu. In the left pane of the Debug Configurations dialog box, expand the debugging interface specified in the project settings and click the required launch configuration. After you click the configuration in the left pane, the configuration settings appear in the right pane grouped in tabs. PEmicro Select the Startup tab, then set the ‘Attach to Running Target’ check box as below: When a debug connection is made, the target will continue running until it is paused.   SEGGER J-Link Select the Debugger tab, then set the ‘Connect to running target’ check box as below: Unfortunately, this feature currently not supported.

Watchpoints are Breakpoints for Data and are often referred to as Data Breakpoints. Watchpoints are a powerful aid to debugging and work by allowing the monitoring of global variables, peripheral accesses, stack depth etc. The number of watchpoints that can be set varies with the MCU family and implementation. Watchpoints are implemented using watchpoints units which are data comparators within the debug architecture of an MCU/CPU and sit close to the processor core. When configured they will monitor the processor’s address lines and other signals for the specific event of interest. This hardware is able to monitor data accesses performed by the CPU and force it to halt when a particular data event has occurred. The method for setting Watchpoints is rather more hidden within the IDE than some other debugging features. One of the easiest ways to set a Watchpoint is to use the Outline View. From this view you can locate global and static variables then simply select Toggle Watchpoints.     Once set, they will appear within the Breakpoints pane alongside any breakpoints that have been set.    Watchpoints can be configured to halt the CPU on a Read (or Load), Write (or Store), or both. Since watchpoints ‘watch’ accesses to memory, they are suitable for tracking accesses to global or static variables, and any data accesses to memory including those to memory mapped peripherals.  Note : To easily distinguish between Breakpoints and Watchpoints within the Breakpoint view, you can choose to group entries by Breakpoint type. From within the Breakpoints view, click the Eclipse Down Arrow Icon Menu, then you can select to Group By Breakpoint Types as shown below:   As you can see from the above graphic, the option to set a Watchpoint is also available directly from the Breakpoint view.   When set from here, you will be offered an unpopulated dialogue – simply entering an address will cause a watchpoint to be created, monitoring accesses to that location.     Another place to set Watchpoints within the IDE is from the context sensitive menu within a Memory view.   Unfortunately, the conditional watchpoints in S32 Design Studio for S32 Platform 3.3 may not work in some cases.

This document details the steps to program external EEPROM with the 32 reset configuration bits in support of the 'Boot from serial RCON' method detailed in the S32G Reference Manual. The Python scripts used for this task are designed and tested to work on the S32G-VNP-EVB with S32G2xx Rev2 and the Atmel AT24C01C it contains.(Serial EEPROM is not implemented on NXP VNP-RDB board)   The RCON can be set by the following: Fuses (internal to the device) Parallel (GPIO pins/DIP Switches on EVB) Serial (EEPROM connected via I2C) The Serial option can be programmed using a debug probe connected via JTAG. This enables the RCON to be controlled remotely, assuming the debug probe is setup to allow remote connections.    Preparation Install S32 Design Studio IDE  Install the Development Package for the device you are debugging. This is important as the S32 Debugger provides access to the EEPROM programming capabilities via I2C of the S32 Debug Probe.  Connect the S32 Debug Probe to the S32G-VNP-EVB and the host PC containing S32 Design Studio installation. Set BOOTMOD pins to boot from RCON Set BOOT_CFG[8]=1 on the S32G-VNP-EVB, for serial RCON mode VNP-EVB shown here with switch BOOT_CFG[8] = 0 See the EVB documentation and device reference manual for more details. Procedure   Open cmd window to the S32 Debugger folder where the device-specific scripts are located. C:\NXP\S32DS.3.4\S32DS\tools\S32Debugger\Debugger\scripts\s32g2xx Set Python path so correct version is used (if not already set in env vars) set PYTHONPATH=C:\NXP\S32DS.3.4\S32DS\build_tools\msys32\mingw32\lib\python2.7;C:\NXP\S32DS.3.4\S32DS\build_tools\msys32\mingw32\lib\python2.7\site-packages Edit the python script to adjust the value to be programmed to RCON, s32g2xx_i2c_RCON.py. Note: The listed examples show only the minimum values required to configure each of the external memory types. Additional settings may be required for your specific application. Adjust the RCON_DATA for the configuration you wish to program.  Do not adjust RCON_ADDR. Adjust the S32DBG_IP for the IP address of your S32 Debug Probe.  Adjust the INTERACTIVE_MODE  Set True, if desired to be prompted to enter RCON_DATA Set False, if desired to have script automatically enter RCON_DATA, based on the value set within the file. Adjust _SOC_NAME as appropriate for the specific S32G2xx device you are using. The valid options are defined in s32g2xx_context.py. Enter the command to start GDB, passing in the RCON Python script: Windows OS: C:\NXP\S32DS.3.4\S32DS\build_tools\gcc_b1620\gcc-6.3-arm32-eabi\bin\arm-none-eabi-gdb-py.exe -x s32g2xx_i2c_RCON.py OR C:\NXP\S32DS.3.4\S32DS\build_tools\gcc_v9.2\gcc-9.2-arm32-eabi\bin\arm-none-eabi-gdb-py.exe -x s32g2xx_i2c_RCON.py Linux OS: arm-none-eabi-gdb-py -x .\s32g274a_i2c_RCON.py If everything worked properly, then the value you programmed will be displayed to the screen. 1) Prepare the evaluation board hardware You can use the S32 Debug Probe to download code to target Connect S32 Debug Probe to S32V234 EVB using JTAG connector Connect S32 Debug Probe to PC via USB cable OR ethernet (if connected via ethernet, then USB power cable must also be connected) Connect the S32V234 EVB to PC via ethernet (typically via LAN) Connect power cable to evaluation board and switch on the power     2) Build the project using the A53 build option. 3) Start debug on A53 core. Project is now built, ELF file is read to be loaded to EVB for execution. 4) Before a debug session can be started, we must complete HOWTO: Setup A Remote Linux Connection in S32DS for Vision. 5) Select the debug drop-down menu and click Debug Configurations     6) Make sure the Debug_Remote_Linux debug configuration is selected and the connection setup in step 4 is selected (points to the IP address of your EVB). Click Debug     7) The first time you connect to a new IP address (i.e. the first time you debug after booting the board), you will receive a warning message, Click Yes and proceed.     The executable file is copied to Linux file system and gdbserver starts.   You may get an error message on the first try, this is normal. Just try it again and it will work. 😎 Once the Linux GDB has started on A53 core and the initial break point is reached in main(), it is almost ready for to start debug on ISP. Click Resume as the A53 must be running before we can attach the ISP debug thread. 9) Locate the ISP debug configuration from the Debug Configurations menu. You will see a debug configuration within the 'S32 Debugger' group (in our example, isp_sonyimx224_csi_dcu_ISP as shown below). This is the debug configuration we will use, however, it will require some setup.     10) You should notice the error message at the top of the window, just below the title and a red 'X' on the Debugger tab. Click on the Debugger tab to select it. We must setup the Debug Probe Connection before we can proceed. There are two options: Ethernet USB   If connecting the Probe via Ethernet, please refer to the Quick Start Guide or S32 Debug Probe User Guide provided with the S32 Debug Probe for instructions on how to connect it and determine the Hostname or IP address.     If connecting the Probe via USB, then the COM port will appear in the Port selection setting. If you have more than one S32 Debug Probe connected, you will need to determine which COM port is the correct one, otherwise, only the COM port for your S32 Debug Probe will appear.   11) This is already done for our example, but for your application, it may be necessary to setup the symbols for the ISP engine. Go to the Startup tab and:    a) Check the box for 'Load symbols'    b) Select the option for 'Use file', click Workspace... and locate the object file (.opius) for the ISP engine you wish to debug.   12) Click Apply then Debug. It may take a few moments for the APEX core debug to launch.   13) Wait for the ISP debug launch to complete. You may notice the A53 thread has terminated. This is normal and expected since the camera input cannot be suspended. When the launch completes, the context of the Debug window will switch to the ISP debug thread. 14) Enable Instruction Stepping mode and then step one time to load the object file which was setup in step 6. 15) The ISP debugging is now running and you can step through the ISP engine, look at registers, set a break point, etc. Note: only one hardware break point is supported for ISP.

Condition: Enable Stopindebug bit for PIT and STM module. Counter could be stop when debug project, but when i set debug mode on, counter not count, project can't be run. Analysis: In order for PIT timer to count when a FRZ bit is enabled, all cores on S32V23x devices need to be running. The reason why it does not work out of the box with current plugin configuration, is because we halt all device cores, which is especially necessary for RAM based projects. Solution: We created a start-up macro to keep all cores running when S32V232M80 or S32V234M100 debug sessions are launched. In order to use it, please go to the following directory without your S32DS3.2 IDE: eclipse\plugins\com.pemicro.debug.gdbjtag.pne_4.2.8.201909091700\win32\gdi\P&E\supportFiles_ARM\NXP\S32Vxxx. Please rename S32V234M100_All_Cores_Running.mac or S32V232M80_All_Cores_Running.mac to default macro names, saving existing default macros in renamed form, or a separate location: S32V234M100.mac or S32V232M80.mac.separate location: S32V234M100.mac or S32V232M80.mac.

Introduction In this document, we will discuss the S32DS Extensions & Updates tool and how to use it to install the device support you need.   S32 Design Studio for S32 Platform has been designed to allow users to customize their installation, enabling them to integrate support for just the NXP devices they need and just the tools they need. With the new modular design, parts of the tool have been moved into one of 4 different package types. The Platform and Tools Packages are default packages which are included as part of the base install, cannot be uninstalled, however, they can be updated.   The Platform package contains the base components of the IDE, modular installer, general documentation and integration mechanisms. The Tools Package contains the compilers, debuggers, and MSYS2. The Development Package contains hardware specific support such as New Project Wizard, S32 Configuration Tools, SDKs and Libraries. The Extension Package contains Accelerator Compiler, Debugger, Graph Tool and advanced SDKs.   Downloading the various components from our cloud-based update server, allows you to assemble and complete the customized installation of the tools and software to meet your development needs. It is also via the update server that the updates and bug fixes will be provided. And of course, all of these will be available as downloads from our product page for users who are installing to an offline PC. S32DS Extensions and Updates Menu When you first launch the S32 Design Studio for S32 Platform, you are presented with the S32DS Extensions and Updates menu. This menu provides a listing of the add-on packages which have been installed, those that are available to be installed, and those which have updates available to be installed. In the panel to the right is displayed detailed information specific to the package which is selected in the panel to the left. If there is an update available for the selected package, the currently installed version number will be shown on the left and the update version number will be shown on the right.       Online Package Installation Setup If your PC is connected to the internet, then it will link to NXP's update server (http://www.nxp.com/lgfiles/updates/Eclipse/S32DS_3.5) and any new or updated packages will be automatically added to the list. See Package Installation section below for installation procedure and details.       Offline Package Installation Setup If your PC is not connected to the internet, you must first download the desired packages from the NXP website, in the form of an archive file, to a separate PC and have them transferred to your target PC. Then you would select the link 'Go to Preferences' and add each downloaded archive file as a separate software site. After selecting OK, you will see the new packages contained within the archive files listed.   Procedure: Go to S32 Design Studio for S32 Platformdownload page and select Download for the package or update you need. Once the file is downloaded, it must be installed within S32 Design Studio. Launch S32DS and wait for the S32DS Extensions and Updates window to appear. Then select the 'Manage Sites' link. The Preferences window appears. Select the 'Add...' button to add a new software site to the list. The file you downloaded will be a software site. Now the Add Site window appears. Since the downloaded file is an archive of type ZIP, the 'Archive...' button should be used to select it. Navigate to the location where the file was saved. Now the downloaded file has been added as a new site. Select OK to return to the main S32DS Extensions and Updates window. Now the new package(s) will appear in the S32DS Extensions and Updates window, just as it would from the update server. See Package Installation section below for installation procedure and details.   Package Installation To install the new packages or updates, check the box to the left of the desired package in the left panel and select 'Install/Update'. The tool will automatically detect any dependencies on other packages and select them to meet all requirements for the installation.     Follow the prompts and the packages will be installed, followed by a request to restart S32 Design Studio.     Dependencies and Errors If there are dependencies between two or more updates, the tool will detect this and inform you of the package which cannot yet be installed. If you try to install a package which is not compatible with the version of S32 Design Studio you have installed, a notice will appear, and the package will not be listed in the S32DS Extensions and Updates menu.   Uninstalling Unwanted Packages If you no longer need a particular package or installed one by mistake, just check the box next to the package and select 'Uninstall'.       Reinstalling Packages If you believe your installed package has become corrupted, if you accidentally deleted part of it (such as an example project, etc.), or if for any reason you need to restore the package, just check the box next to the package and select 'Reinstall'.   Additional Information If you wish to not see the S32DS Extensions and Updates menu at startup, you can uncheck the box at the lower left. For internet connected PCs, the update server will still be linked and checked for new packages at S32DS startup, but you will no longer see the S32DS Extensions and Updates menu. However, you will still see a notice at the lower right of the tool at startup when new packages are detected.

So you've just installed the S32DS for Vision and are using it for the first time and would like to see how it works. Here is a quick and simple project to get you started.   1. Launch S32DS for Vision 2. Select 'S32DS Application Project' 3. Enter a name for the project 4. Select the 'A53 Linux' processor option 5. Click Next 6. Click Finish 7. Change to C/C++ perspective, click on 'Switch to C/C++ Development' 8. Build the project for Debug 9. Project is now built, ELF file is read to be loaded to EVB for execution. However, if we have not prepared the EVB, we must first complete HOWTO: Setup S32V234 EVB for debugging with S32DS for Vision and Linux BSP. 10. Once the EVB is properly prepared, we must complete HOWTO: Setup A Remote Linux Connection in S32DS for Vision. 11. With the project debug configuration and remote linux connection selected, select the debug dropdown menu and click Debug Configurations 12. Make sure the Debug_Remote_Linux debug configuration is selected and the connection setup in step 10 is selected (points to the IP address of your EVB). Click Debug 13. The first time you connect to a new IP address (i.e. the first time you debug after booting the board), you will receive a warning message, Click Yes and proceed. 14. The executable file is copied to Linux file system and gdbserver starts. 15. The Debug perspective is opened. You can now step through the code*     *Only debugging of the A53 code is supported by Linux GDB. For multicore debugging, including ISP and APEX2, additional debugger and probe(S32 Debugger with S32 Debug Probe, Lauterbach, etc) will be required.
