This talk will review the driver, receiver, and common PCB characteristics and show how simulation with IBIS models are used to weigh the trade-offs for the DDR bus design. We will also review the high-speed signal channel and its characteristics and illustrate how the TX and RX circuits in general are used to offset signal losses, and discuss key characteristics of the channels that are needed to allow these TX and RX circuits to work effectively, such as minimizing return loss.

The session will introduce an upcoming xEV traction motor power inverter platform system-play solution featuring a new MCU, new IGBT gate driver, and new safe SBC bound together with system enablement software and ASIL-D compliant safety support. A fully functional traction motor reference design being designed by partner Vepco will also be introduced based on a Power IGBT Module from Fuji Electric. The session will describe the platform’s components, software structure, value proposition, enablement support and go-to-market approach to help enhance understanding of the application and NXP solution as well as how to sell the system platform.

As memory interface data rates increase, so does the need for ensuring proper margins have been designed into the system’s usage of that interface. One way Micron has studied the system’s usage of the memory interface is through Timing & Signal Analysis (TSA). A TSA attaches physical hardware to the memory device to observe a subset of the memory interface as operated by the system. Another approach to memory interface is Virtual TSA (vTSA). This method uses the memory controller’s training algorithms to provide margin information without the use of physical test hardware. This method allows characterization of the entire memory interface. This session will compare and contrast the two different methods, and will ultimately demonstrate the value of integrating vTSA tools on the system platform. We intend to reference actual results from the latest i.MX 8 QXP board.
