Official rules of the Global Freescale Cup!
New in 2014 - Roll-out of leagues:
Depending on region there will now be three leagues. The Global race will only be stock league vehicles.
Stock League - Racing using approved components, less customization allowed
Custom League - Racing with less restrictions and custom hardware
Innovation League - More than just racing. Complete an objective or task to score points and win.

Each team shall use the same basic kit of parts as described below. The following requirements are in place to keep the playing field level. You must use one of the approved controller and motor driver boards. If any standard component of the car model is damaged, then the same replacement component should be used.
Before the race, the judges will perform a technical inspection of all entries. This includes vehicle specifications, dimensions, and equipment requirements listed in Section 3.
2. Reconfigure practice track to final track.
Section 7: Event Personnel
Organizing committee – A committee of senior judges and Freescale event organizers. Will coordinate event day activities and mediate and resolve any disputes.
Referees - Responsible for on-track activities. This includes race track management such as starting and stopping vehicles, as well as timing and scorekeeping. Comprise up of of faculty, student, and/or Freescale and industry employees.
Judges - Interpret and enforce rule compliance. This will be comprised of Freescale employees and members of contributing industry sponsors.
Event Personnel shall not aid any one specific team. Communication shall be open to all teams and shall not disclose any information that might compromise the fairness of the competition.
The rules will be interpreted by Freescale and the organizing committee of the event.
Foul, is a minor infraction, which results in time penalties.
Failure, results in the current attempt time not being recorded. Subsequent attempts are allowed.
Disqualification is a major infraction which results all times not being recorded.
Section 9: Timing/Scoring
The rules and conditions are subject to change by Freescale if necessary. Freescale reserves the right in their sole discretion to cancel, suspend and/or modify The Freescale Cup race at any time. These official rules are drawn up in the English language. If these official rules are provided in any other language and there is a conflict in the text, the English language text shall prevail.

Hi John, when will the next Global competition be organized?
Hi, I have some questions about these rules.
About the electrical restriction of section 3 "You must use one of the approved boards below to control your car.".
Q1: Are the rules talking about we cannot use homemade minimum system board (which is using kinetis MCUs, link) nor some homemade high voltage control board(link)?
---
About the line "One processor - No auxiliary processor or other programmable device is allowed. "
Q2: Some sensors like camera, have build-in circuit which can do binarization in hardware( link), or camera with fifo chip ( link) .
Is the rule mentioned " other programmable device" includes these camera?
or is " programmable device" just meaning the kinds of MCUs or FPGAs device?
----
About "The Dual Motor Control Board from Landzo technologies."
Q3: Is the that this?
Thank you!
Deactivated user
John, have a look at those questions. Do you have a link for the dual motor control board from Landzo and can you confirm on the limitation of boards to be used?
Thanks
Hi Deactivated user I have a question, for the stocked league when it mentions "approved components" what does specifically mean? Does it mean that for the competition we can ONLY use the components listed in the “Mechanical” and “Electrical” sections? For example for the “High Voltage Motor Control and Interface” does it mean we can ONLY use one of the two boards mentioned (TFC-SHIELD and Dual Motor Control Board from Landzo technologies) or can we build our own board for the motor control stage?
Hi Jose Manuel, for the Worldwide Freescale Cup challenge, we are asking the students to use only the approved boards. You cannot develop your own custom boards. This is in the spirit of fairness and to avoid difficulties for the teams at the technical inspection in the case that their custom board is "hidden" or not accessible to verify that the board is conform to the rules (for example: no 2nd processing component or any other restricted component). Those rules are reviewed each year so stay tuned for any changes for the 2015 season.
Hi FlavioStiffan so just to be sure that means that in the competition we can NOT use a Motor Control board build by ourselves with analog components alongside a FRDM board, so in order to control the DC motors we are limited to use the two boards mentioned (TFC-SHIELD and Dual Motor Control Board from Landzo technologies) is this right?
Besides I have another question can we use small analog circuits build by ourselves? like for example an analog amplifier build with opamps or an analog comparator also build with opamps
Hi JoseManuelSandovalChavez I think the rules are pretty clear on what can be used. For the MCU and motor control part of the circuitry, only approved boards are allowed. In regards to the Small Analog amplifier, what is it related to? What's its function?
Ok thanks for the answer, in regards to the analog amplifier it will be used for conditioning of a signal coming from a sensor or a camera, the analog comparator that I mentioned will be used for the same purposes. For example we have a IR sensor that give a output voltage from 0 to 250 mV, we want to amplify the signal up to 3.3V or so, or want the comparator to only check if the sensor is in the white zone or the black line... thing like that.
Hi, it is ok to do signal conditioning. As long as you do not have another MCU part of it and that you control servos and motors via the authorized boards you are ok. Please make sure you are documenting your extra development with BOM (Bill of Material) and schematics in case there are any questions during the technical inspection.
Will there be tunnel for this year's Global Competition?
According to Competition Rules for Freescale Cup Malaysia 2014, tunnels will not be included in Global competition as well. Thanks.
The layout of the track is not known in advance so I cannot divulge to you if there will be a tunnel or not during the Worldwide Finals. Make sure your vehicle is within the measures authorized in the rules (height, width and length) so you are sure to fit into a tunnel if there will be one.
