I am currently working on a project involving the i.MX8 platform and require support for utilizing two UART interfaces.
Additionally, I am exploring options for evaluation kits that inherently support two UART signals. I have the following inquiries and requests:
1. Support for Two UART Interfaces on IMX8: - Could you please provide guidance or reference materials on configuring the i.MX8 to support two UART interfaces? - Are any specific software configurations or modifications required in the device tree or kernel to enable this functionality?
2. Repurposing the J7 Connector on IMX8: - The J7 connector on the i.MX8 evaluation board is currently configured for USB functionality. Is it possible to repurpose this connector for UART functionality? - If so, could you provide detailed instructions or documentation on how to reconfigure the J7 connector for UART use? This includes any necessary hardware modifications and software changes.
3. Evaluation Kits Supporting Two UART Interfaces: - I am interested in knowing if the NXP8MPLUS-BB evaluation kit supports two UART interfaces out of the box.
Could you provide detailed specifications and documentation related to the UART capabilities of this kit?
- Are there any other NXP evaluation kits that support two UART signals? If available, please provide detailed specifications, documentation, and availability information for these kits.
Understanding the UART capabilities and potential configurations of these evaluation kits and the i.MX8 platform is crucial for my project's development. Your assistance in providing this information will be highly valuable.
Hi @Rojesh!
Our iMX8MP EVK has 4 UART ports and is connected as mentioned below:
UART1 -> M.2 UART
UART2 -> A53 Debug
UART3 -> Rpi Connector
UART4 -> M7 debug
The UART1 is connected to the wifi/bt module, UAT2 is for A53 Debug, UART3 is for the user and UART4 is for M7 Debug but you can use it under Linux like UART3 but you can't use this UART over M7 core.
You have the next community post as a reference to do the configuration.
