Freescale, as a member of the USB-IF, owns a Vendor ID and manages a database of Product IDs to be used in association with the VID.

Customers can apply for a license to use Freescale’s VID with a uniquely assigned PID. You will need to work with your local Freescale Sales or Field Engineering team so they can request a PID on your behalf.

Hello,

selling PIDs is prohibited by USB-IF statements. So Freescale cannot sell any PID. Freescale can only give you a PID free of charge, but we don't do that. All PIDs within Freescale's VID (0x0425, former Motorola VID) are managed by Freescale. You can use PID 0x0001 for your application. You MUST NOT use Freescale's VID for your market-targeted application- you must either purchase a VID or became an USB-IF member.

All those companies that sold PIDs in the past stopped doing this as far as I know.

Hi,

it has been some years since your post and I was wondering if Freescale has changed policy on this as there are many other vendors who sub-license PIDs to small scale productions (<10K units/PID, I believe) for their customers.  We are making a product that is set to help many but doesn't really make any money (yet at least) - www.empirikit.com and we are using the Freedom boards with little or no modifications with our own firmware on them (of course).  We don't have $5K to hand over to USB.org for a VID (a bit expensive for small productions, IMO) and we are really in need of an official VID/PID combo for the science kit we are making.

Is there any way Freescale can help out?

Hi.

VIDs are purchased only for device applications. If you want to developa some USB host- only application, you dont need to purchase any VIDs (what for?).
