I did find a work around, (freescale service suggested, but doesn't support) download the new microsoft virtual PC

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx

and install the windows XP mode.  It does allow you to run codewarrior 8.2.3 in that enviroment.  Kind of a pain, but it works and I can keep working.

Would be nice to see freescale get caught up and release a native version of codewarrior for 64 bit systems.  They have known about windows 7 for atleast a year, and 64-bit systems (vista, xp 64) for 3-5 years.

Thank you all who helped.

Chris

I got it to work in Windows 7 - 64-bit without using virtual pc.

I am using the 10.1 version of the eclipse ide. The driver that came along with this version didnt work in the windows 7 - 64-bit, but when i installed this older version "CW_HC12_v5.1_SPECIAL.exe" it fixed the problem with the new version as well.

I hope this helps.

There is also an unsupported software patch which allows the USB TAP to work with the Classic version of CodeWarrior under Win 7. This patch is described in the application note AN4338. Don't forget to download the software archive, AN4338SW.zip, with the patch.

Tom your solution don't work.

I think that P&E and Freescale products have different VID and PID code.

In Windows 7 64 bit, it works in Windows Virtual PC XP mode. You have remember to connect the device usb before, from the top menu on the screen of Windows Virtual PC

Hi,

I've installed XP mode on Windows 7 32bit and still have problems with USB-TAP connection - anytime I try to attach USB-TAP in USB pane, USB-TAP disappears and LEDs stop blinking. Then I must to reconnect USB-TAP to make it visible in USB pane or in Win7. Any idea how to fix it?

To check USB-TAP function, I've tried it on another PC with WinXP and its working.

To check possible problem with USB-TAP driver I've installed CodeWarrior for Microcontrollers V6.3 in XP mode and tried to connect with FSLOSBDM and P&E Micro (to 8bit MCU) with the same experience - after Attach the device disappears and LEDs go off.

Note: CodeWarrior under Win7 is about to crash on every application closing (even if the XP compatibility mode is set and CW runs with administrator account). After several crashes it destroyed itself (cannot start CW).

I have already follow this procedure and this is they reply:

"

Thanks a lot for contacting us.

CodeWarrior for 56800/E does not support 64-bit OS. Our latest version of supports:

* Windows(r) XP/2000

* Windows(r) Vista (32-bit) (Home Premium and Business Editions)

It does any support 64-bit OS, including Windows 7. So the USBTAP driver included in CodeWarrior does not support Windows 7 too. Please refer to the link below for details:

http://www.freescale.com/files/soft_dev_tools/doc/data_sheet/950-00003.p

df?pspll=1

Hope it helps! If not, please contact me again. I'll be very glad to help you. "

I have try the Windows-XP emulation on the virtual machine under Windows 7 and the USBTAP emualtor is working.

Many thanks to ChrisR for this workaround.

In any case I hope that Freescale release the 64bit native driver very quickly.

I think you should still try installing the P&E Micro drivers. The USB TAP is essentially a P&E multilink under the surface.

I to have this issue, as my machine is 64bit also for other engineering needs.  I attemtped to download the file, but it did nothing when I installed the files as they are for the MultiLink and Cyclone devices, not the USB Tap.

How do we go about raising this as an issue within freescale.  More and more companies are going to be going this way, and we can't simply stop developing.

You can submit a Service Request (SR) and describe the problem to them. The SRs are logged and become part of a database, and someone has to respond. I do not know if they will have a solution, but you will have placed the problem on their radar. I am trying to come up with work-arounds for the current situation. I am sorry that the updated driver file is not going to help you.

Click here to file a Service Request. For the category pick Techical Support, and for the Topic pick CodeWarrior.

the Freescale support say that the 64 bit driver is not available at this time. A big problem for me...

Thanks anyway.

The TAP drivers are written by P&E Microsystems. They have released 64-bit compatible hardware drivers and they are available at:

http://www.pemicro.com/support/downloads_find.cfm

On this page you'll find the 64-bit hardware, in the P&E Hardware Interface Drivers Version 10 package. These drivers do not include application level support (the interface to CodeWarrior or other tools), but I'd try changing the hardware drivers first and see if that works.
