i.MX7 Firmware development without YOCTO Project

Hello,

I would like to know that is there any way we can develop firmware for i.MX series processors to run specific algorithms?

Yocto project is great however it seems that I need to code kernals/drivers for my custom board based on i.MX7 which would be using peripherals for further processing.

Any hints are appreciated.
