Unable to program RW610-based custom board with External Flash

I have a custom dev board based on the RW610 chip. I am trying to write firmware using a Jlink adapter from the FRDM-RW612 board (will eventuallly shift to MCU-Link).

For some reason, the default memory config with only ram declared at address 0x0 for size 0x130000 works normally in debug mode. But as soon as I add external flash address to the memory configuration, it stops working. Even the memory monitor doesnt show any data on the whole range.

I have attached a screenshots of one of the ranges i tried.

My bad!

Sorry, I will add those here.

Also, I think I might know the issue. I am using a Spansion S25FL256L which is not directly supported. I have requested for AN13869 document that provides more insight on how to add a new flash.

I have looked into https://github.com/nxp-appcodehub/an-frdmrw612-module-migration-guide?tab=readme-ov-file and deduced that I would need to create a new memory config for my board to work with the RW610.image.png

Alternatively if you think that something similar already exists, please guide me.

Hi, @snjy

Are you using our RW61X EVK board?

Because I remember that you are using a custom dev board based on the RW610 chip, not our NXP RW61X EVK board. Please help to double confirm.

Are you already get access to this AN:AN13869? Or you are still applying for the access? Because this AN is under secure files control.

And for your information, this AN gives an example  that MX25U51245GZ on FlexSPI flash interface is removed and W25Q512NW is mounted on the same flash pads. As the two flash devices are pin-to-pin compatible with the same working voltage, no other hardware modification is required.

But if you are using a custom dev board, not our RW61X EVK board, you need also to check whether need modifications in hardware.

 https://github.com/nxp-appcodehub/an-frdmrw612-module-migration-guide?tab=readme-ov-file

This guide help developers migrate their applications from the FRDM-RW612 board to a module-based board. Are you using a module-based board? Or you are designing custom board in COB way?

Best regards,

Christine.

Hi Christine,

I am using a custom board based on RW610. I am not using the EVK board.

We already have a signed NDA with NXP to get access for AN13869 which I forwarded to one of your sales engineer who approached me, but I have not received any response from them yet.

I have come across the link that you refer, but it doesnt not have support for the memory chip we are using (Spansion S25FL256L).

If you could look into the request for the document, it would be helpful. Paralelly I can DM you the NDA document if that helps.

Hi, @snjy

Sounds great that you already have signed NDA with us.

Would you please share your NDA number to me? Then I request our TSR colleague help to check whether the NDA is still active.

And also for your information, I know it is not convenient for our customers that we have some secure files need to apply for access. But if it is ok for you, please share to me more info about your project, so that I can initiate a process with our product management team to proceed secure files access. By the way, we grant secure files access according to customer's project's annual revenue. So I can not guarantee that you can get granted. But believe me, I will try my best to support you on this.

To protect your project's info, please send your project's info to my private working email: christine.li@nxp.com.

Thanks for understandings and sorry again for the inconvenience to you.

Even you get granted, you still need to check the modifications in hardware side because you are using a custom board. If needed, you can also share your schematics to me, we can help you to review the external flash connections part.

Best regards,

Christine.

Hi, @snjy

Thanks for sending me email.

I already received, and checked internally, confirmed that your NDA number is still active and valid.

Could you please help to provide your project info by sending me email so that I can proceed with our Product Management team?
