Hello, making sure I am not crazy here, even though the text on the case is rotated the indented dot still indicates pin 1 correct?

Hello Jason,

you are right - the dot points to pin 1 corner independently to text.

BTW, you can quickly double check it by xtal connection - xtal is connected to pins 15 and 17 on your picture, which is correct to the position of the dot.
