Hello,
1. Arduino Compatibility
The FRDM-A-S32K358 is part of the NXP FRDM Automotive ecosystem and is designed with ease of prototyping in mind.
The board provides Arduino-compatible headers, enabling the use of standard Arduino shields for rapid application development.
For reference, the S32K3X8EVB-Q289 evaluation board also supports an Arduino-compatible pin layout.

2. Pin Availability
It is important to distinguish between:
- MCU capability (S32K358 device) vs.
- Accessible pins on the evaluation board
While the S32K358 MCU supports a high number of GPIOs (depending on package)
- The S32K3X8EVB-Q289 is a full evaluation board providing broad access to MCU pins through multiple connectors and expansion interfaces.
- The FRDM-A-S32K358, by design, is a compact and cost-optimized board, and therefore exposes a reduced subset of pins, primarily through Arduino-compatible headers.
As a result, not all MCU pins or peripheral signals are available externally on the FRDM board.
3. Hardware Differences Between FRDM and EVB
The two boards target different use cases:
FRDM-A-S32K358
- Compact, low-cost
- Rapid prototyping, software development
- Arduino shields
S32K3X8EVB-Q289
- Full evaluation platform
- Full hardware evaluation and validation
- Arduino + additional connectors and interfaces
The S32K3X8EVB-Q289 typically integrates a broader range of external interfaces, connectors, and measurement capabilities, making it more suitable for detailed hardware evaluation and system validation.
4. Schematics and Design Files
The product is relatively new and I do not see any dedicated documentation here on the public web page.
You can either wait for update of the page or request it by NXP support ticket at NXP.com.
Best regards,
Peter
