For eval kits such as the T-Box or BMS, there are many extensions that need to be installed prior to importing the example projects. Many times, specific revisions of each package are required.
While the Automotive Software Package manager is an attempt to relieve the user from locating each of these extensions manually, the user still needs to go through the tedious and lengthy process of installing each extension manually in S32DS. For the BMS, it took me about an hour from start to finish, including installation of S32DS itself. The package manager doesn't cover the T-Box. I originally used the latest packages only to discover the project won't build. After carefully reading the instructions, I located all the correct files and installed them. Again, this took at least an hour.
This is a terrible out of box experience. I'd love to see a script that downloads and installs all the necessary extensions, eliminating possible mistakes and freeing me to do something more productive.
When I'm evaluating different products, I'm much more likely to use the one that gets me to a productive state with the least hassle. An eval kit should just be plug and go, not an exercise in searching through the website and forums to figure out how to run even the simplest demo.
