How to add CAN controllers to a HCS12 based design

What is the best way to add more CAN controllers to a HCS12 based design

when more controllers are needed than those available onboard the cpu?

The best way is to change to a HCS12 with more MSCAN ports. If you need more than 5 CAN ports, well... then I suppose you could put additional controllers on the SCI. But before doing that, I would stop and seriously ask myself what I'm doing with so many CAN ports.
