Difference between MC9S12XEP100MAL and S912XEP100W1MAL

Hello,
What is the difference between the MC9S12XEP100MAL and the S912XEP100W1MAL ?
Is it only a different mask set? If yes, can you then tell me what it is?

Hi,

as you can find in the reference manual, chapter ordering info, the device starting with prefix S is automotive specified device with mask set code included in the part number. The device S912XEP100W1MAL contains mask set 1N35H (code W1). The device with the prefix MC is device with any possible mask set. The mas set is presented at the package directly. If you order an MC device then it is not able to order specific mask set.

Each mask set has its own errata list.

What is a mask set?  Is it firmware?  Since these are flash parts, can I use the S912XEP100W1MAL part by erasing the first and then reprogram it?
