Hi,

I have a question about the jitter requirements for the T2080 Sata reference clock. In table 94 or the latest data sheet a phase jitter(Peak-to-peak) of +/- 50 ps is required. Note 3. then specifies that this is only the the frequency bands of 150kHz to 15MHz at a BER of 10^-12.

To accurately measure this would the procedure be to take the RMS jitter for that frequency range, then multiply it by a factor of 14.069 for a BER of 10^-12. In our system we are using the following clock source from IDT 9FGV0841AKILF. When measuring the RMS jitter we get 11.368ps. Converting to a Phase jitter of 159.936ps. Is this the correct method to determine whether or not that requirement is being met?

Thanks,

Will

It is specified as +/- 50 ps, hence your RMS result should be multiplied by +/- 7 for comparing. I.e. you get ~80 ps which is greater then required.
