Securing SLIX and SLIX2 tags

I am upgrading an old system that uses Slix and Slix2 ICODE tags. What is the best way to secure these tags? Add a password to the tags? 

What hardware and software do I need to do this (I am currently using Feig readers)? I have also downloaded RFIDDiscoverLite. Is that the correct software to use? Will I need to request secure a new reader/writer? Will I need to request access rights for secure files?

Yes, you can set the security password to protect the tags. Please check its datasheet for the details.
