I'd like to ask NXP not to 'copy protect' the User's Manuals and datasheets.

Opening the UM10850 in my Web-browser (any of my Web-browsers) crashes them immediately.

Find (search) does not work.

The TOC does not work, it's messed up completely and clicking it does not work either.

NO links work inside the document.

One can buy software, which removes the protection anyway.

The only way to find what you're looking for is to page up/page down through the document.
All these problems are encountered when using Mac OS X 10.5.8.

In this case I find it better not to respond. The answer to your suggestions is already written above anyway.

I uploaded the PDF I downloaded earlier, and the SHA256 match exactly.
-I expected that, because last time NXP removed encryption from one of their User's Manuals, that fixed the problem as well.
Last time was for the LPC1788 (I needed that UM for helping someone else, and had to use Rev2.0 instead of the newest Rev2.1).
This time I also needed to help someone else, but I do not have an old PDF, which works better, so I can't continue helping him with it.

At the risk of causing a flame war...

If the browser crashes, that is a problem with YOUR BROWSER.

Seeing as you, with old and out of date, software are the only person reporting an issue, the problem must be at your end.

Upgrade your software.

I have a Windows PC, but at least I can see that it is encrypted and seems to use:

Security method: password security
Encryption level: 128-bit RC4

Seems to be some kind of protection against modifying the PDF.

But have you taken into account, that perhaps download has failed (too small file, changed file, ...)?
I have just downloaded the file and took virustotal ( https://www.virustotal.com ) to calculate SHA256:
It is "f86363de8baa8b005f074ea2fe3ee72654aa1408ac44be94afb77299be1ce624".
Can you take your (already downloaded) file and calculate the same checksum? Is it equal?

I really don't see why you must encrypt the documents.
It seems to be very random to me, whether they're encrypted or not, and it does not help anyone anyway.
Most of your PDF files are unencrypted, so they cause no problems; but when I hit one that's encrypted, the browser crashes, causing strong frustration on my side, because I do not just use a single window when I look for information on the Web (it's really causing great pain every time it happens).

So my wish this Christmas is this: I'd like NXP to start making the public PDFs unencrypted (perhaps set some preferences that makes unencrypted PDFs the default, if such preferences exists).

I am sorry, but this must be a problem with your viewer. Standard Adobe tools are used to create the documents. As you can see from the attached screenshot, the data is not garbled and the PDF was created by Acrobat Distiller v10.1.9 on Windows.

I've verified that the LPC5410x UM in particular does not have any copy protection and that the TOC, search, etc. functions as it should on Windows 7, OSX 10.8.5, and Arch Linux.

Note: Mac OS X 10.8.5 is not the same as Mac OS X 10.5.8...

Note that the inspector-window shows garbled content.

Note that the file is encrypted.

Adobe reader does not fix my browser crashes.

When I click a .PDF document, they usually cause no problems, but if I click one of NXP's PDF documents, there's a 10% chance that it will crash my browser, and thus all my windows will be trashed (including some of my browsing history, so if I'm in the middle of something, I'll have to try and remember how I got there).
The right fix is to produce PDF-files that are not damaged by incorrect data.
All the PDF files I produce (eg. author) are 100% correct and can be read by everyone.
There is some PDF generator out there somewhere, which produces incorrect data, when it's encrypting the pages.
The solution is to generate the PDFs without the "encrypt" checkbox checked. It's fairly simple and easy; and it causes the PDFs to be readable by everyone, including older systems.

I've seen it with so many PDF files made by NXP, and I've sent a note to support as well.
The problem happens whenever the PDF is encrypted, it does not happen when a PDF is unencrypted.

Hi Pacman,

I'm sorry to hear that you can't open the PDF in your browser and many of the functions do not work. I've verified that the LPC5410x UM in particular does not have any copy protection and that the TOC, search, etc. functions as it should on Windows 7, OSX 10.8.5, and Arch Linux.

No problems here. Nothing wrong with the PDF at all (OSX 10.9). Probably a problem with your (very old) software.
