Will Kinetis Design Studio support OSJTAG?

Hi,

I'm very interested in this new IDE: Kinetis Design Studio. It has no code limits and it is equipped with PEx, MQX, etc.

But I don't see if it has built-in debug mode for OSJTAG, just like what CodeWarrior does.

Many Kinetis TWR boards have this debug interface so  I'm wondering if Freescale will support it?

If not, we have to use CW or buy a debugger.:smileysad:

KDS supports GDB with OpenOCD, Segger and P&E. And P&E supports OSJTAG. Therefore, OSJTAG is supported with KDS, so you can for example a Kinetis Tower board with KDS: simply select P&E GDB in KDS. Similar what is present in CodeWarrior today where OSJTAG is supported with P&E as well.

Just one correct: KDS does not come with MQX, but you can use MQX with KDS.

In fact, I know that OSJTAG is supported by P&E, but I was just wondering if the P&E server will be integrated in KDS_IDE. Because the P&E server is also charged. Well, thanks for Mark's link, I'm no longer worried about that.

Hi Kenan,

The GDB server from P&E inside KDS is free of charge and unlimited. Beside of that, you have options including USBDM (see Using USBDM with Kinetis Design Studio).

See Codewarrior will no longer be supporting new Kinetis parts????

I can't imagine that there will be no OSJTAG support, otherwise there would be no point in KDS. It should be available in the next few days so we will know for sure then but I would put bets on the same interfaces as CW has.
