RF testing with KW36

Hi XingChang‌,

For KW36 micro DTM is configured as a 2-wire UART interface as mentioned in the below link

Direct Test Mode (DTM) Configurations for the KW family

But while performing the RF test the transmitting tests are proceeding but the receiver tests are getting failed even for one packet.

But in the datasheet, it is mentioned that for receiver tests for 1500 packets the test is passed.

Are there any additional settings or configurations that need to be done?

Please verify this issue and let me know asap.

Thanks!

Regards,

Naven Suresh

hi!

just want to confirm if this was resolved using the DTM 2-wire UART config?

Hi nsuresh2@visteon.com‌,

Could you please provide some details? What equipment was used and what were the test items? It's best if there are setup details.

Hi XingChang‌,

we are performing Bluetooth low energy (RF PHY) qualification testing .

Following are the test activities.

pastedImage_1.png

Test Details:

Test Purpose: This test verifies that the receiver sensitivity is within limits for non-ideal signals at normal operating conditions when receiving a 1 Ms/s signal. The non-ideal signals used in this test are within the specification limits but deviate from the ideal case.

Initial Condition -

The IUT is set to direct RX mode.

Dewhitening shall be turned off. - Frequency hopping off, fixed frequency -

The tester's transmit power is chosen such that the input power to the IUT receiver is -70 dBm. - The value of MAX_RX_LENGTH (for which the TC is performed) is specified in Section 6.7. -

The IUT is set to assume the transmitter has a standard modulation index.

Test Procedure:

1. The IUT is set to receive at the lowest frequency for testing as defined in Section 6.2.

2. The tester transmits LE test packets with PRBS9 payload (MAX_RX_LENGTH octets). See [4], Section 4, “LE Test Packet Definition” for details.

3. The signal characteristics of the modulated signal transmitted by the tester are to be changed over time. The signal parameter sets to be used are described in Table 4.4. All other parameters shall be as defined in Section 6.1.

4. The tester transmits the first 50 packets using the first parameter set; the next 50 packets are transmitted using the second parameter set etc. Upon completion of the last parameter set, the sequence is repeated. The PER is measured according to Section 6.4.

5. Steps 2–4 are repeated when the IUT is receiving at the remaining frequencies defined in Section 6.2.

pastedImage_4.png

In addition to fixed frequency offset, frequency drift over time is added to the signal characteristics. This is implemented by adding a low frequency modulation to the signal. The modulating signal shall be sinusoidal with deviation of 50 kHz and a modulation frequency of 1250 Hz. The modulating signal shall be synchronized with the packets so that packets start alternately at 0° and 180° of the modulating signal.

Expected Outcome

Pass Verdict: All measured values fulfill the following condition:

PER better than 30.8 percent for a minimum of 1500 packets transmitted by the tester if the IUT’s MAX_RX_LENGTH is 37 bytes.

PER better than the value calculated according to the formula specified in Section 6.4.1 of RF PHY spec for a minimum of 1500 packets transmitted by the tester if the IUT’s MAX_RX_LENGTH is greater than 37 bytes.

Observed Outcome-Fail

The test case is failing with PER value as 100% for 1500, 750, 100 and 10 packets. Attaching the logs for reference

Regards,

Harichandana.

Hi Naven,

Can you test with the HCI interface? use the bin hci_black_box.

Hi XingChang‌,

Thanks for your quick feedback.

Can you please let us know why the 2-wire UART method is getting failed for the above test cases?

Is there any specific reasons to switch to the HCI Interface?

Regards,

Fuzail

Hi Fuzail,

The openSDA on FRDM-KW36 is directly connected to the HCI interface of KW36. We can directly verify the wire connection problem with FRDM-KW36, but the 2-wire UART has no corresponding connection. I am not sure if it is caused by the connection.

If using the HCI interface, connect FRDM-KW36 directly to CMW270 via USB to start testing.

Hi XingChang,

we have performed RF testing in the NXP FRDM Board with hci_bb project. In FRDM-KW36 moved the capacitor (10 pF) from C55 to C57.

But All the TX test cases are pass and Rx test cases are failed in FRDM board also.

Please Find attached Test Log details.

Please suggest us to resolve this issue.

Regards,

Fuzail

Hi fbasha@visteon.com‌,

Did all Rx tests fail, or is this the only one, are there logs for other Rx tests?

Hi XingChang‌,

We have run only the below two test cases.

1. Receiver Sensitivity RFPHY/RCV/BV-01-C

2. Inter-modulation Performance RFPHY/RCV/BV-05-C

Fuzail
