My customer seeks confirmation that a user program that has been programmed once (or perhaps twice) into Kinetis KL04 flash will be retained in flash for 10 years.  We are not seeking an endurance number (ie....using Flash like EE for many writes)..... just a level of confidence that the original user program in Kinetis KL04 flash will be retained for 10 years.

Hi Gordon,

Below KL04 Flash specification about reliability is for normal flash operation and retention life:

flash.png

For KL04 doesn't have FlexNVM feature, which could bring confusion to customer.

In fact, the NVM here is nonvolatile memory abbreviation, which is no means FlexNVM.

Wish it helps.

Have a great day,
best regards,

Ma Hui

Hello Ma Hui,

A few related questions:

1) What does "cycling endurance" mean?  What happens after 10k cycles?  Does the memory cell fail to retain the value?

2) Do reads affect the endurance?

3) Is this spec for a single cell, or does this apply to a sector or block of memory?  For example, if the memory is segmented into 1024 bytes does a write to byte 0 and a write to byte 1 count as 1 write in each cell, or 2 writes?

4) Is it reasonable to follow the "curve" and say that after 100k cycles we could expect a minimum of 0.5 years of data retention?

Thanks!

JT
