Kinetis KL05 support

Hello, and upfront I would like to excuse myself for my ignorance.

We started working on a project which should use KL05 microcontroller because our client has a lot of these left over from a previous product. We've been working with ST and other brands of micros for years, and we are new to Kinetis.

I've been trying to jump start development on this platform and purchased FRDM-KL05 board and installed KDS, but I don't know what to do next. I couldn't find support for this micro in SDK 2.0 nor in previous versions. This is unimaginable that the manufacturer doesn't support his own product in a SDK. Am I missing something?

I did find some examples for KL05 for IAR and KEIL, but they look like very old and not written in a very readable way.

How should I go ahead with this? We are on a tight schedule, and I was really hoping that NXP will provide valid sample code and libraries for this MCU. Is this MCU considered as obsolete, thus not having a support in the SDK anymore?

Thank you for helping me with this.

Hi Srdjan Stokic,

Thank you for your interest in NXP Semiconductor products and the opportunity to serve you.

The FRDM-KL05 board is great choice to get start with the KL05, and KL05 is very similar with the KL03, KL02.

So you can still refer to the KSDK V2.0.

The FRDM-KL05 has the related sample code package, it's the more easily than the KSDK V2.0 and its link is below.

Hope it helps.

If you have any further questions about it, please feel free to contact with me.

Have a great day!

Hi

Check out
http://www.utasker.com/kinetis/FRDM-KL05Z.html

This has complete KL05 project code which can be worked with together with KDS, CW, IAR, Keil, Green Hills, Atollic, Rowley, CooCox, GCC, VisualStudio, C32 Design Studio. It allows the KL05 to be simulated too.
Code is also operational on most KEA, KE, KL, K, KW, KV parts without porting expense when moving between parts (it also works on STM32 chips with virtually no porting, if I dare mention it here; although it has allowed many STM32 users to simply migrate to the Kinetis parts in my defence....).

KL05 projects can be started and finished in very short time scales since most complications have been solved in advance....although beware that some of the KL05s do have very little RAM so don't expect the same capabilities and performance as more up-market Kinetis devices.

Regards
