Has the MCF53xx series, 5329 in particular, scheduled for end of life?

We are already having problems running CodeWarrior for Coldfire because it requires Windows XP to run and our IT department does not allow Windows XP on the company network and support information appears to be minimum for ColdFire since NXP took over.

Would recommend using ColdFire MCF5329 on new designs or recommend another NXP processor

Hi Bob,

CW was sold in suite since April 14, 2008.

so if your company was already purchased CW7.2,  there is no doubt you also have all other CW suite versions license including CW10 for MCU license.

this is the article for How to register and retrieve CodeWarrior suite licenses :

How to register and retrieve CodeWarrior suite licenses

please note CW for MCU v10.5 license also work for CW10.6 and CW10.6.4.

But CW for MCU v10.4 and lower version licenses can not. user needs to renew license to get CW suite to the latest version. regarding to how to renew:

How to renew support for CodeWarrior suite licenses

can this help you?

Have a great day,
Jennie Zhang

Hello Bob

MCF532x was launched on 2007-01, and its longevity is 15 years.  This information can be found at:

http://www.nxp.com/pages/product-longevity-archived-september-2014:LONGEVITY-ARCHIVED

We've 2 versions supporting the MCF5329

    - CW for Coldfire V7.2 which is based on classic version and was released in 2010,

    - CW for MCU V10.6.4 which is based on Eclipse and released middle of 2015.

We recommend the last version CW for MCU V10.6.4, it supports Windows 7&8. It can be downloaded from:

Hope this helps!

Best Regards

My company purchased a perpetual CW Pro V7.2 license (only runs on Windows XP). Is there an upgrade cost to move up to CW Pro V10.6.4 or do we need to pay $4995.00 for a new license??

Hi,

you are correct MCF53xx is not recommended for new design.

you can see the same from NXP web site.

I recommend use Kinetis K instead. see below:

ARM Cortex-M4 Cores|Kinetis K MCUs|NXP

here is Kinetis family overview:

Kinetis Low Power 32-bit ARM Cortex-M MCUs|NXP

can this help you?
