i.mx7 without internal RTC but SNVS tamper

Hello community!

Quick question on the possibility of the following:

Both tamper detection and RTC are needed. Based on i.MX7/PF3000 RTC Backup Power an external RTC will be used. Tamper and internal RTC are both powered by SNVS power domain.

Is it possible to disable the internal RTC while still using tamper detection?
May the RTC Oscillator/Pins be left unconnected if an externl RTC is used? Does this have any effect on this power domain setup?

Thanks and regards,
Lars

Hi Lars

it is not possible to disable the internal RTC, please refer to its description in i.MX7D Datasheet

http://cache.nxp.com/files/32bit/doc/data_sheet/IMX7DCEC.pdf

recommended to tie RTC_XTALI to GND and RTC_XTALO leave unconnected, so the on-chip
oscillator is automatically engaged.

no
