We are integrating a LAN8710A-EZK PHY with the i.MX6ULL in RMII mode and need clarification regarding the 50 MHz reference clock.
Since RMII requires a 50 MHz clock, can the i.MX6ULL accept a direct 50 MHz input from an external oscillator? In the i.MX6ULL reference designs, the 50 MHz reference clock is usually generated by the processor and supplied to the PHY. However, to avoid potential stability issues, we are considering using a dedicated 50 MHz oscillator instead.
Is this approach supported? If so, which i.MX6ULL pin should be used to provide the 50 MHz oscillator output, and are there any specific design guidelines or limitations we should be aware of?
