how to build source codes in linux ????

i have downloaded kernel source codes and i have done some changes in source code for my requirement, i need to build these files(they already have makefiles) and after building my new kernel i need to copy the ZImage of newly built kernel to sdcard along with uboot and imx6q-wandboard.dtb files. so please tell me the steps to build my source code.
