hi Yiping, i also just study the Variscite DART-6UL or TechNexian PICO-IMX6ULL.

Not sure if they have any local support in APAC region?  Do you have any contact point to share?

Both TechNexion and Variscite support APAC customers. For Singapore, TechNexion may provide more convenient regional support due to its Taiwan headquarters. I recommend contacting TechNexion ([email protected]) and Variscite ([email protected]) directly to discuss Singapore distribution coverage, local support resources, stocking policy, and design-win support

1. NXP i.MX93 SOM (Best Long-Term Option)

The i.MX93 supports:

  • 24-bit Parallel RGB Display
  • eMMC 5.1
  • Multiple SPI interfaces
  • Gigabit Ethernet with TSN

Pros

  • Current generation MPU
  • Long NXP longevity roadmap
  • Lower power than AM335x
  • Linux support active for many years

Cons

  • Native SGMII not directly available like Layerscape/i.MX95
  • SOM price typically exceeds US$45 once 512MB DDR + 8GB eMMC are included

Expected SOM Price

  • Approximately US$45–60 depending on volume

2. NXP i.MX6ULL SOM (Best Price Match)

The i.MX6ULL provides:

  • 24-bit Parallel RGB LCD interface up to WXGA
  • eMMC support
  • SPI ports
  • 512MB DDR variants readily available

Typical SOM configurations already exist with:

  • 512MB DDR3
  • 8GB eMMC
  • Dual Ethernet

Pros

  • Closest price to AM3354
  • Mature Linux BSP
  • Large SOM ecosystem
  • Easy migration from AM335x-style designs

Cons

  • No native SGMII
  • Ethernet limited to Fast Ethernet (10/100) on most modules

Expected SOM Price

  • US$25–40 in production volumes
  •

For native SGMII, you'll generally move to:

  • i.MX94x / i.MX95 families
  • Layerscape LS1028A/LS1043A

These usually push SOM pricing well beyond US$44.
