Maintain yoco image version

Is there any way to maintain yocto image version and check version of image. For example we can check kernel version with uname -a. Is there any way to check image version? How can I maintain image version when building new image by bitbake command "bitbake core-image-minimal"?

Hi Pratyush,

when an i.MX device boots it thows in the boot log some information like following:

Freescale i.MX Release Distro 4.1.15-2.1.0 imx6ull14x14evk /dev/ttymxc0

imx6ull14x14evk login:

An option could be to edit the Yocto recipe that shows this information en increase the number each time it build.
