KitKat - Navigation Bar/Status Bar Missing

I'm using i.MX6SL evk with HDMI daughter card. With the default Kitkat image, it works fine but both navigation bar and status bar are missing.

Does anyone know how to enable them?

I am not an Android Expert, but I believe this can be done, in the Init.rc file.  Here is a document that explains,
