Can I run Windows on iMX8M ?

Hello,

As we all know, the boot process of iMX8MM board is:

1) ROM code loads SPL

2) SPL init RAM and load U-boot

3) U-boot loads Kernel

4) Kernel and Userspace

As we also know, Windows needs bootmgr and it runs from BIOS or UEFI environment, since U-boot has support for UEFI environment which can run UEFI applications such as bootmgr.

Can I develop my own support for Yocto in order to:

1) Activate UEFI in U-boot

2) Set a partition table for the eMMC

3) Install Windows filesystem into eMMC

4) Set U-boot commands to run bootmgr as UEFI application

5) The bootmgr loads Windows.

I can handle Advanced Yocto and U-boot work, my only question is:

Is this theory possible? Can it be applied to iMX8MM board ?

Thanks,

Talel

Hi @talel_hajsalem,

Is unfortunate to say the Windows 10 IoT is no longer supported from our part as windows end their support from our side, the documents that were left are just for historical reference, you can find them on the next link:

Hi @talel_hajsalem,

Theoretically is possible but this has never been tested before and won't be supported on our part, as the only OS supported are on the link below:

i.MX Software and Development Tools | NXP
