Boot Memory vs Code Memory for iMX6 Custom Board

Greetings,

My question this time is about the memory configuration of devices housing iMX6. I know when it comes to boot option, iMX6 can boot from couple of different memories, however I came across people using different memory types for bootloader and OS on the same board, such as having an eMMC as bootloader and NAND for the OS image and such. Is there a reason for this? Is one cheaper (well obviously but is there a huge difference) or when it comes to speed or erasable blocks or durability and etc. What is the recommended setup for memory partitioning by NXP? I know Sabre is not a HW referrence so I ignored it for this question.

Regards,

Mete

Hi,

As you mentioned it will depend on different factors like:

Bandwith: boot time.

Reliability: Robust to power loss and fixing errors.

Efficiency: Less power to use.

A recommended configuration cannot be provided as it depends on your application and cost.

Best Regards,

Alejandro
