Add Marvell ethernet switch to imx6q using kernel 3.10.53

Hi,

I've perused the forums for some assistance, but have struggled the last few days with bringing up this network switch. Hopefully someone here can shed some light. I'm trying to get a Marvell ethernet switch, particularly the 88E6071, to work on the imx6q processor. I'm currently using kernel version 3.10.53.

Hardware-wise, the Marvell 88E6071 is configured for MII PHY mode and it connected to the CPU accordingly. In the startup log pasted below, the following error is what I’m currently trying to track down:

dsa: probe of dsa.26 failed with error -22

Digging into the driver, it seems like of_mdio_find_bus() is failing to find the mii_bus. It finds the mii_bus node in the dtb file, but can’t seem to find the associated mii_bus. The comments for the function state:

* Because the association of a device_node and mii_bus is made via

* of_mdiobus_register(), the mii_bus cannot be found before it is

* registered with of_mdiobus_register().

It sounds like of_mdiobus_register() needs to be called first, but of_mdiobus_register() is never invoked. Any ideas? Am I on the right path? Any help would be appreciated. Startup log and DTS snippets are pasted below:

Thanks,

Hello,

Did you have any success in that. I am connected with RGMII interface. My controller is Marvell 88E6172 with iMX6Q SoC, Kernel versio 3.10.53. I am not much concerned with the switch right now but atleast bringing up the ethernet but no success. Can you please share with me DTS entries for ethernet and enet bring up in the platform. I am not an expert in this area.

Regards,

Farrukh Arshad

Hi Farrukh,

I did not successfully get the ethernet switch to work. That effort was put on hold as I've focused on higher priority items.

Thanks,

Hi Fabio,

I appreciate your suggestion. The thread you listed is actually one I used to help get me started. The dts snippets I posted contain changes that are mostly from the thread you suggested. However, It doesn't sounds like Oliver ever got it working judging by his response in this post

Unable to integrate a Marvell 88E6071 switch on imx28 board with MII/MDIO

One thing I have not tried is using ethtool and mii-tool to help me debug. I'll include them in the build and see if they can shed more light on the issue. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks for your help.

Try using kernel 4.2 and then post to the netdev mailing list in case it still does not work.
