MPX2010DP Pressure Transducer clarifications

Hi,

       Can you please clarify below queries.

1. What is the sensitivity in mV/V for MPX2010DP sensor? Datasheet mentioned 2.5mV/kPa, is this same as mV/V?

2. what will be the sensor output voltage @ VCC = 4.096V?

3. Datasheet mentioned 10kPa is the max operating pressure range, Can i use this sensor for continuous exposure of 120 cmH20 (11.768kPa)?

4. What would be the

      a. Impact of pressure sensor if continuously exposed to 120 cmH20?

      b. Sensor output at 120 cmH20? Assume senor is powered from 4.096V?

5. Can this sensor detect negative pressure, if so what is the maximum operating negative pressure it can measure?

6. Can i use this sensor for -20 cmH20(-1.961kPa)?

7. Will it follow same sensitivity for negative pressure?

please see answers below your questions.

The sensitivity value in the datasheet is correct. The sensor measures the pressure, and the ouput is in V. So the sensitivity must be in V/Pa or for better scale mV/kPa. The sensitivity would be in mV/V if the device would measure voltage.

2.What will be the sensor output voltage @ VCC = 4.096V?

The sensor is ratiometric to the supply voltage. For the recommended supply voltage Vs=10V the output voltage would be from 0mV to 250mV. Please see the Figure 2. in the datasheet. For the supply voltage Vs=4.096V, the output voltage will be x/0.25=4.096/10 => x=(4.096/10)*0.25=0.1024V=102.4mV. 

The output voltage for the supply voltage of Vs=4.096V would be from 0mV to 102.4mV.

3. Datasheet mentioned 10kPa is the max operating pressure range, Can i use this sensor for continuous exposure of 120 cmH20 (11.768kPa)?

The maximum pressure rating the sensor can sustain without a damage is 75kPa. Please see the Table 2. In the datasheet. You can continuously expose this sensor to 11.768kPa, but the output voltage would only reach its maximum value (for your case 102.4mV) at the pressure 10kPa and wouldn’t increase with increasing pressure.

4. What would be the

a. Impact of pressure sensor if continuously exposed to 120 cmH20? 

The output voltage for Vs=10V would be 250mV +-offset. The sensor would sustain the pressure without a damage.

b. Sensor output at 120 cmH20? Assume senor is powered from 4.096V?

The output voltage would be 102.4mV +-offset. The sensor would sustain the pressure without a damage.

5. Can this sensor detect negative pressure, if so what is the maximum operating negative pressure it can measure?

Unfortunately no this sensors pressure range is from 0kPa to 10kPa. You would need a vacuum pressure sensor to detect negative pressure.  

6. Can i use this sensor for -20 cmH20(-1.961kPa)?7. Will it follow same sensitivity for negative pressure?

If you need to detect a negative pressure of -1.961kPA, I would recommend you the MPXV7002, the recommended supply voltage is 5V, which suits you better. Please see the datasheet attached.

But if you need to measure the negative pressure up to -2kPA and also positive pressure we have a MPXV7025, although it wouldn’t be as accurate for negative pressure. Please see the datasheet attached.

You can also consider the MPXV5007. Please see the datasheet attached. Also please see attached a brochure with list of NXP sensors.

Hi Jozef,

              Thanks for your prompt response.

1. As per datasheet sensor output at 10kPa is 25mV correct? But as per your comment it's 250mV, is it typo error? As per my calculation sensor output voltage at 10kPa is 10.24mV(4.096V*2.5mv/kPa), kindly confirm the same.

2. What is the minimum operating voltage that sensor can operate without compromising performance?(We're powering from 4.096V reference)

3. Assume one port left open and another port is connected for pressure measurement in this scenario What will be the impact of output voltage if barometric pressure higher than the intended pressure(situation like pipeline pressure zero and sensor is powered ON)? Will it produce output voltage with linear characteristics?

4. Can i use this sensor for wet gas pressure measurement?

5. What will happen if sensing element exposed to water droplets once in a while?

6. What would be the impact of sensor performance if exposed to higher humidity?
