Hi,

I was looking for a general purpose beginner to intermediate 16 bit Microcontroller that is no more than $300 and has all the necessary tools to get started.  There is so many boards and tools to chose from, im not sure which one would be right for me. Any recommendations would help.

I would appreciate your help.

I recommend thos emade by Technolgical Arts  www.technologicalarts.com

I have used them for many years, and use them now in all my micro classes at college.

You don't need to go anywhere  near $300, they have modules a slow as $45 or complete kits around $140, and you can use either codewarrior special edition or GCC for free development software.

regatrds,

Aha!  You want to know so I can help you, eh?

Here is the one we use.  They have made a quick link to it so our students can buy it directly:

http://www.technologicalarts.ca/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=68&products_id=425&osCsid=36eb8696414...

It has a/d, DAC. 128k flash etc. They all have timers.  This one does not have CAN bus, you need the C128 for that but you lose the DAC, so it is not recommende dunless you are really into CAN bus.

.

Nigel Johnson

Thanks again Nigel, you were a great help. Do you teach at Seneca College by any chance?

No, Sheridan.  Mr. Ross and Mr. Scheffler would be the best people to ask at Seneca.

I was just curious. I was looking into registering at Centennial College for a more hands on approach to Embedded Networks. I graduated from the University of Western Ontario, but I found that I enjoy more of the practical side to Electrical Engineering, in particular Embedded Systems. I currently working right now in the field, but I would like to specialize in this area within the near future.

I appreciate your help once again.
