During recent debugging, it was discovered that there is an "access an illegal address range" issue with the EEPROM. I would like to understand what are the usual reasons that lead to this problem.

What is the content of the MMCPC register?
There should be a value of the PC at the time of the illegal access.
In the disassembly, you should be able to find the fault instruction at the PC address.
MM9Z1-638 has the same MMCV1 module as all the other S12Z MCU where ERR[3:0] = 1 is described as "illegal access" that is specified in the datasheet.
