I'm looking for a decent stand-alone freeware assembler for the MC9S12 family (stand-alone means I don't want to mess with some silly IDE that takes weeks to learn -- CW comes to mind). I've tried one popular offering by a well-known player in the field (name with-held) and find it childish and un-useable.

I'm also looking for a free-ware flasher/emulator that works with the P&E BDM pod.

Thanks much in advance.

I managed to like some stuff here, specifically as12. I've also added some #if features that made as12 more useful.

As12 is certainly standalone (no linker), and the AsmIDE is not a steep learning curve in case you have trouble setting up a smooth environment.

Many thanks, I'll give it a try.

I've already introduced my assembler in this forum .  It is also compatible to the AS12 and has some improvements (able to assemble code in more than two passes, handles two address spaces (logical and physical), assembles HC11, S12, S12X and XGATE code,...). You'll find an older version in the download section The latest version http://home.arcor.de/hotwolf/ has macro support.
You might not appreciate that it has been written in Perl, but it's another free alternative.
