PT2001 PT2000 MC33816 DC/DC Vboost Protection

I find no example for Vboost DC/DC protection, and often no Vds detection possible as example circuit does not use D_LS7. Surely it is worth protecting the MOSFET.  Can anyone share an example?

Good morning RafaR,

I think just another error in PT2001 documentation, taking too much from PT2000 that does have Vds detection possibility. Rather than the MC33816 to which the PT2001 has pin level compatibility.

See  in : AN5203 "3.2.2 DCDC low-side VDS monitoring
The MC33816 DCDC low-side does not integrate VDS monitoring. The DCDC LS7 and LS8 low sides on the PT2000 can be used for VDS monitoring for diagnostics purposes, but also for the new DCDC regulation mode called Resonant mode."

Then the document offers the 3 DC/DC Vboost generator modes. There is NO example code for "• PWM mode: Control of low-side is done manually by microcode, with a fixed frequency, for example" I note the loss of a period at end of sentance suggesting an over edit. Where is this example of PWM mode code? Please see the other open questions relating to PT2001.

So great if this confusion can be resolved.

Can we focus on the more pressing

Hello RafaR,

I think I have read every document secured or otherwise for MC33816 PT2000 and PT2001. No examples for diagnostic/protection for Vboost DC/DC generator. Pehaps you could provide a list.

Cheers

Oh there is NO Vds detection for LS7 yet there is drain sense pin shown on many schematics. What is that pin for? Better still pin does NOT exist. Roll on AI proof reading.

Hi Fast

Okay, I spoke with a coworker and we think the representation of D_LS7 in the PT2001 as you describe is strange, we are going to escalate this case to verify and clarify this.

I will contact you again when this confusion has been cleared up.

Have a great day and best of luck.

Hi Fast

I recommend you follow the link below:

https://www.nxp.com/products/PT2001

Scroll to ”documentation” in this section you must choose "secure files", if you do not have access you must open a ticket to request access.

In secure files you find these two documents that may be useful to you.

1.- Datasheet with examples of schematic recommendations

2.- Safety manual, Chapter 5.- Safety concept, here you can find more information

I hope this information has helped you, please let me know if you need help with anything else.

Have a great day and best of luck.
