MPC8349E Boot ROM and Reset Configuration Words

I am considering using parallel NOR flash connected through local bus GPCM for storing MPC8349E's booting image and reset configuration words.

According to the reference manual, there are examples of EEPROMs for storing the boot ROM and reset configuration words.

I wonder if I must use the EEPROM or if I can use the equivalent nonvolatile memory, such as the aforementioned NOR flash.

Parallel NOR Flash can be used.

Please refer to the MPC8349EA PowerQUICC II Pro Integrated Host Processor Family Reference Manual, 4.3.2 Reset Configuration Words:

"The reset configuration words are loaded from the local bus or from the I2C interface or from hard-coded values during the power-on or hard reset flows."

4.3.1.1 Reset Configuration Word Source:

CFG_RESET_SOURCE[0:2] = 000  (Reset configuration word is loaded from a local bus EEPROM.)
